Martin Eberhard, Rocket eBook Inventor, Joins AlexLit Board

Posted on August 23, 2000

Alexandria Digital Literature, Inc. (AlexLit), an ebook publisher and retailer, has announced the appointment of Martin Eberhard, inventor of the Rocket eBook, to its Board of Directors. Eberhard, co-founder and former CEO of NuvoMedia which created the Rocket eBook (an ebook reading device), is the first outside board member appointed by the privately held four-year-old epublisher.

Eberhard brings industry and business expertise to the AlexLit board gained from developing the Rocket eBook, forging relationships with publishers and online booksellers, and negotiating the sale of his company to Gemstar, International in January, 2000. AlexLit has content contracts to provide ebook titles to NuvoMedia, as well as to SoftBook Press, Inc., which was also purchased by Gemstar. Eberhard will provide AlexLit counsel on technology issues, investment community positioning, and strategic partnerships.

``When Martin Eberhard agreed to join our Board of Directors, we were not only elated at the prospects, but also greatly honored,'' said Dave Howell, CEO and founder of AlexLit. ``Martin is renowned in the ebook industry, and will be a significant resource for many areas of our business. His expertise will be invaluable in helping our company pursue investment resources, implement business development strategies, and build market share.''

Update: AlexLit is no longer publishing.
