The Orange County Register Acquires Coast Magazine

Posted on September 6, 2000

The Orange County Register's magazine division has acquired Coast magazine, a monthly high-end lifestyle publication in Orange County with annual revenues of nearly $3 million, announced Register Publisher and CEO N. Christian Anderson III. Coast, which has a circulation of 45,000 households in Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and select neighborhoods throughout southern Orange County, will become the third magazine in the Register's stable of niche magazine products. The other magazines are Golf Extra and Orange County Home.

``Coast is an important addition to our company's group of products. As we seek to strengthen our position as the information provider of choice in Orange County and to reach additional audiences, Coast is a special magazine with a special group of readers and advertisers. We look forward to working with Coast's talented staff to serve the Coast community,'' Anderson said.

Former owners Jim and Nikki Wood will continue in their roles at the magazine. Nikki Wood remains as publisher, reporting to Chris Schulz, Chief Operating Officer of OCR Magazines. Jim Wood will continue to contribute editorial content to the magazine on a monthly basis. No other staff changes are planned.

``Coast magazine has a very respected editorial voice and content with loyal readers and advertisers,'' Schulz said. ``The Register's magazine division will be strengthened with the addition of Coast's proven advertising sales teams and experienced editorial and design staff.''
