Chapbooks.com Forms Alliances With Educational Companies

Chapbooks.com has announced the formation of strategic alliances with two educational companies, JL Hammett Company and the Great Source division of Houghton Mifflin, to support K-12 teachers in creating classroom publications. Chapbooks.com's online service allows students and writers to write, edit, proof, and order short-run paperback books composed of their own words and pictures.

``Since we created Chapbooks.com to give people access to the power of professional publication for personal use, over 1,000 teachers have turned themselves into publishers and their students into published authors,'' said CEO Matthew Josefowicz. ``We're proud to be working with these new partners to give more educators access to that power.''

``We are delighted to add Chapbooks.com's unique publication service to our growing online curricular offerings,'' said Lisa Bingen, Director of Marketing for Great Source Education Group, a Houghton Mifflin company that publishes alternative and student-friendly K-12 curricular materials. ``This is a very valuable and meaningful online application for teachers.''

Chapbooks.com's Homepage Builder for Books enables web users to create, edit, and proof their books online. Users enter or paste in text, upload digital images, and choose layouts online and look at proofs and then order printed copies. All rights are retained by the authors according to Chapbooks.com. The cost is $24.95 for the first copy and $5-7 for additional copies, with discounts for volume and non-profit or educational users. Chapbooks.com takes its name from the first form of private mass publishing, the ``chapbooks'' (or ``cheap books'') sold by itinerant peddlers in the 17th and 18th centuries. Chapbooks.com, Inc. is privately held and based in Boston, MA.
