Kodak Launches New Online Photo Website

Posted on September 27, 2000

Eastman Kodak Company has launched the new kodak.com, an online photography website that combines applications, content and commerce. The new site offers services and content to help people do more with their digital pictures, from sharing pictures and discovering photo tips from photography experts, to organizing, enhancing, storing and printing pictures.

``As the digital and Internet photography industry grows, consumers need a place online where they can go for all things photographic,'' said George Douaire, general manager, kodak.com, Eastman Kodak Company. ``Others may offer printing services or certain community elements, but Kodak provides the most complete place on the Internet for a wide range of photo services and content, from leading editorial and photo communities to printing, sharing, storing and shopping services.''

Market research shows that consumers want to do more with their pictures on the Internet. According to InfoTrends Research Group, Inc., a Boston-based analyst firm specializing in digital imaging, consumers will upload approximately 1.7 billion pictures to online photo services in 2000. That number will increase to more than 6 billion pictures uploaded in 2003.

``With the new kodak.com, Kodak is aggressively reinforcing its position as the leading photography company in the world--both online and offline,'' said Carl Gustin, chief marketing officer and senior vice president, Eastman Kodak Company. ``By embracing new technologies, kodak.com delivers services and information that will let consumers do more with their pictures than ever before. We believe people will spend a lot of time using Kodak's exciting new photo applications and services. This strategy supports our growth and success in the Internet marketplace and complements our online consumer initiatives with retail partners.''
