Posted on October 10, 2000

Dow Jones & Company has announced that The Wall Street Journal Online passed the 500,000-subscriber milestone as of September 30, 2000. WSJ.com has steadily attracted new subscribers since beginning to charge in the fall of 1996. This is about 1/3 the circulation of the print edition of The Wall Street Journal, which has a daily circulation of about 1.8 million.

``From the beginning it was our intention to build a timely news resource that readers would find valuable enough to pay for,'' said Neil F. Budde, editor and publisher of WSJ.com. ``Our readers are investment-oriented, tech-savvy businesspeople and we've continually developed WSJ.com, adding innovations and news features that meet our readers' most vital information needs.''
