Primedia Announces Inside New York Magazine

Posted on October 27, 2000

John Loughlin, president and CEO of Primedia's Consumer Media and Magazines, has announced that his group has formed a partnership with Merrie Davis, the former publisher of Where New York, and that together they will create and distribute Inside New York, a new upscale New York visitor's publication.

In her role as publisher of Inside New York, Ms. Davis will report to Deborah Barrow, the newly appointed president of Primedia's consumer magazine unit. Inside New York will launch in March of 2001 and will be available in hotel rooms and concierge desks at many of the City's top hotels including; the Penninsula, the Mark, the Regent Wall Street, the Waldorf- Astoria, and the Plaza.

In announcing the partnership, Loughlin said, ``New York is an extremely important franchise for Primedia's Consumer Media and Magazines. Since the magazine was founded in April of 1968, it has been New York City's magazine of record for residents. The launch of Inside New York helps us to grow that franchise in a new direction by designing a publication specifically suited to serve New York's 38 million annual visitors. It's another step in our strategy of brand extension and a terrific opportunity for us to grow the powerful New York brand.''

Ms. Davis commented, ``I'm very pleased to be working with the people at Primedia to launch this new publication, and can think of no better partner in New York City than New York magazine. Having spent a good portion of my career working on magazines designed to serve the tourism industry, I know what it takes to make these projects succeed. Given the strength of my new partner, I can say I have very high expectations for Inside New York.''

Inside New York will have an interactive/web component with a special section to be featured on a New York-focused Internet destination, a partnership of New York Magazine and Cablevision's Rainbow Media, to launch early in 2001. Primedia Inc., with 1999 sales of $1.7 billion, is a media company with print, video, and Internet businesses focused on consumer and business-to-business audiences.
