Thursday, November 2, 2000 Media Cynic | Forum | Advertising | Classifieds | Jobs Mibrary to Present Award for Ebook Innovation The winner of this annual award will be selected by popular vote at the Mibrary website from a field of three finalists. The submission of nominations ends at midnight on Friday, November 17th. Final balloting to determine the winner will commence on Tuesday, November 21st and will conclude at midnight on Friday, December 1st. The accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP will tabulate the results of the voting. The award will be presented to the winning organization prior to the keynote address at BookTech West 2000 in San Francisco on Monday, December 11th. The winner will receive the Steuben Pillar Crystal created by Steuben designer David Dowler. In addition, Mibrary will make a $5,000 contribution in the name of the winner to the Association of American Publishers' ``Get Caught Reading'' program. ``The future of publishing -- both electronic and print -- depends on how well we capture the imagination of a new generation of readers, and that's what 'Get Caught Reading' is all about,'' said Pat Schroeder, president and CEO of the Association of American Publishers. ``We're delighted that Mibrary has made support of 'Get Caught Reading' an integral part of this new award that recognizes special contributions to the development of ebooks.'' ``The sponsors of the BookTech West expo, to be held in San Francisco, Dec. 11 to 13, are pleased to have been selected by Mibrary as the venue in which to present what will surely become a coveted honor,'' said Donna Loyle, editor in chief of BookTech magazine, and conference program manager for BookTech Expos. ``Presenting The Mibrary Alan Kay Award for ebook Innovation is a terrific way to kick off the keynote address in which three leading publishing and technology experts from Microsoft, McGraw-Hill and Xlibris.com will discuss the future of the electronic book.'' ``The market for ebooks has taken hold and Mibrary wants to recognize the most influential entity responsible for furthering the popularity of electronic books,'' said James Alexander, CEO of Mibrary. ``We respect and support the leaders in this exciting medium and we're proud to give them the credit that they deserve.''
