Sesame Workshop Relaunches Sesame Street Website Relaunches

Posted on November 24, 2000

Sesamestreet.com has re-launched its website with new interactive content. Sesamestreet.com, an originator of kids entertainment and educational programming, will re-launch with several new features including ``Talking Out Loud,'' a column written by Sesame Street's own ``Maria,'' Sonia Manzano, who shares her unique perspective as a mother and a Sesame Street insider. In her new column, Maria discusses the joys and hardships of being a parent, and offers parents a chance to revisit the learning and community they gained from Sesame Street when they themselves were young children.

In addition to ``Talking Out Loud,'' the new site will also add Sesame Radio, a place to hear Sesame Street songs. Sesamestreet.com encourages families to navigate the site together and offers additional ``Fun-To-Go'' activities for parents to enjoy with their children off-line. Other site features include a mail center, where children can learn the basics of emailing while corresponding with their favorite Muppet, the ``Muppet Piano,'' an interactive menu designed specifically for preschoolers, that leads visitors to individual Muppet home pages, Muppet-based games and stories.

``Helping children reach their highest potential remains the sole focus of Sesame Street, and Sesamestreet.com continues our heritage as a brand that invites both parents and children to learn and grow together,'' said Stephen Gass, Group President of Sesamestreet.com. ``This dynamic new site leverages our decades of research that focuses on understanding the development, behavior and attitudes of children while also inviting parents to realize the educational potential that can be found on the Internet.''

Sesamestreet.com will also be integrating additional content based on the curriculum for the upcoming 32nd season of the television show, which focuses on art and music. While the site is specifically designed to entertain and educate pre-schoolers, parents will discover elements created with them in mind such as Sesame Street Parents, a section written by the experts from Sesame Street Parents magazine, filled with advice, quizzes, activity planning tools, topical features and Baby Workshop which is devoted to education and advice on infants. Other site components that remain include Sticker World, Passport Kids, the Sesamestreet.com Daily, and other games, fun facts, and parenting tips.
