Playboy Announces Reorganization of Its Publishing Group

Playboy Enterprises, Inc. has announced that it is reorganizing its Publishing Group, combining the offices of president of the business group and publisher of Playboy magazine. As a result of the reorganization, Alex Mironovich, president of the group since 1999, has decided to leave the company. Playboy said that Michael T. Carr, a senior vice president of PEI in the late 1980s and more recently president and CEO of Weider Publications, Inc., will assume the titles of president of the Publishing Group, publisher of Playboy magazine and executive vice president of PEI effective Monday, December 4.

Christie Hefner, chairman and CEO of PEI, said: ``We are very pleased to have Michael back with us. He understands the unique relationship Playboy has with its readers and, with his strong sales and marketing experience, will be particularly focused on increasing revenues. Michael also brings strong business and management skills to the job and will be equally attentive to the need to improve profitability and operating margins. He comes at a successful time in the magazine's history. Playboy is closing its third year of advertising sales growth and has enjoyed a strong year in terms of editorial coups, contributing to the group's projected profit growth in 2000."

``We believe that this new organizational structure will bring greater focus on revenue growth while reducing the group's overall cost structure,'' Hefner said. ``While Alex agreed with the change, he has opted to pursue other publishing opportunities.''

As president and CEO of Weider Publications, Carr was responsible for six publications including Men's Fitness, Shape and Jump. He joined Weider from PEI, where he was senior division vice president of advertising sales. He began his publishing career in 1981 with Lebhar-Friedman, Inc., moving a year later to CBS Publications, Inc., where he was Midwest territory director for Woman's Day magazine until joining Playboy in 1984.

Michael Carr said: ``I am delighted to be returning to this company. It's like coming home. The power and excitement of the brand, combined with the high quality of the magazine, make Playboy a unique product. I am passionate in my commitment to making this magazine even more successful and I look forward to leading the strong team that already is assembled.''

As part of the reorganization, Gail Day, who had been publisher of Playboy magazine for the past year, will be leaving the company. In addition, Larry Djerf, division vice president of retail marketing and sales, and Phyllis Rotunno, division vice president of subscription, will now report to James Radtke, senior division vice president and general manager of the Publishing Group.
