This is a 30 percent increase from the current rate base of 250,000. David Ferm, president and CEO of Primedia's Business-to-Business Group, has appointed Tim Andrews as CEO of Primedia's Intertec Publishing and Event Unit. Ferm also announced the appointment of Craig Reiss as the Group's Chief Creative Officer. Reiss is the former senior vice president for corporate editorial development at BPI Communications Inc., publisher of Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter and Adweek. The New York Times has announced that Terry Tang, a member of The Times editorial board, has been appointed Op-Ed editor. Tang replaces Katy Roberts, who was recently named national editor. Learning Network, an Internet education source, has launched a new site for kids aged 9 to 14 -- FactMonster.com. FactMonster.com combines reference materials, fun facts and features, and individualized homework help. Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. and Barnes & Noble Inc. jointly announced on 11-29-00 that they have no current plans for a merger, acquisition or business combination. Upside Media, Inc., a San Francisco and New York based company will launch the Upside Financial Network, which will stream audio financial news beginning January 2, 2001. Outside magazine and Away.com have announced an exclusive strategic partnership to create an online resource for the adventure enthusiast. CMP Media Inc.'s Electronics Group has launched EDTN Europe, an online news, information, and design services portal for the European electronics industry. CNET Networks, Inc. announced that its board of directors has elected Chief Executive Officer, Shelby Bonnie, to Chairman of the Board, succeeding Halsey Minor, who will become Chairman Emeritus. Excite@Home and Work.com have announced the launch of a new version of the Business Channel on Excite.com to offer users business tools, business content and Web-based resources. Belo has announced that Dunia A. Shive has been promoted to executive vice president, effective immediately, and will continue in her role as chief financial officer of the Company. Belo also announced that it has completed the sale of The Eagle in Bryan-College Station, Texas to the Evening Post Publishing Company as the companies previously announced. Cygnus Business Media, a business-to-business media communications company, has announced that Mark Weber will join the company in the newly created position of Vice President, Business Development, effective January 1, 2001. Stanford University and Harvard Business School have announced their intention to jointly explore a project to develop and deliver online executive and management education. The McGraw-Hill Companies has announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Mayfield Publishing Company, a privately held college publisher that is a leader in humanities and social science disciplines. Big City Radio acquired the assets of United Publishers of Florida, Inc., owner of Disco Magazine, and LatinMusicTrends.com and producers of Enterese, a U.S. Hispanic magazine. Wizards of the Coast Inc., developer and publisher of game-based entertainment products, has announced an agreement with the NBA to create an original NBA trading card game releasing fall 2001. This multiyear deal with the NBA is the most recent addition to the trading card game category at Wizards of the Coast, which also produces the NFL and MLB Showdown card games. The company also produces the popular Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering trading card games. Harvard Medical School professor Dr. Eugene Braunwald has agreed to serve as Editor-in-Chief of MD Consult Cardiology, a new Web-based clinical information source for cardiologists from MD Consult, an online medical information service. Christine Alvarez has been promoted to director, licensed promotions for Discovery Networks, U.S. Publishing & Production Executive magazine, a North American Publishing Company title, recently changed it's name to PrintMedia. While the content will remain geared towards publishing production managers and creatives, North American Publishing has similarly released a publication, Internet Publishing, which will cover the Internet production industry in conjunction with a trade show.
