Reciprocal and Digital Goods Announce Agreement

Posted on December 8, 2000

Digital Goods, formerly SoftLock.com, has announced that it has signed an agreement with Reciprocal, whereby the two companies will offer an integrated solution for publishing and marketing secure digital content. The agreement combines Digital Goods' digital content marketing (DCM) capabilities with Reciprocal's digital rights management (DRM) and commerce services. In a related development, SoftLock.com announced that it has renamed itself Digital Goods in order to reflect the company's increased focus on content marketing.

Under the terms of the agreement, Digital Goods will also serve as a reseller of the Reciprocal Digital Clearing Service while continuing to support its own DRM products. In addition, Reciprocal will promote Digital Goods' content marketing services to its customers, which includes publishers of books, music, video, and software.

``Our work with leading publishers has helped us learn that the ability to secure and distribute digital content is not sufficient to maximize consumer sales of digital goods,'' said Scott Griffith, chairman and chief executive officer of Digital Goods. ``We are thrilled to collaborate with Reciprocal, the industry's leading digital distribution services provider, to offer publishers a powerful end-to-end service that will not only help them distribute their valuable content using the most appropriate Reciprocal DRM solution, but also will help them unleash the value of their content by providing them with powerful marketing tools.''

``Reciprocal is helping to bring more and more publishers to the online distribution market,'' said John Schwarz, president and CEO, Reciprocal. ``Our partnership with Digital Goods means that Reciprocal's customers can now take immediate advantage of one of the most sophisticated viral marketing networks available and remain comfortable about their copyright obligations.''
