Salon.com, an Internet media company, announced that its site traffic on the Salon.com network surged in November 2000 to over 50 million page views, the largest traffic month recorded in its five year history.

MSNBC.com, an online news site, has reached an agreement to incorporate local news content from the websites of The Minneapolis Star Tribune, The Knoxville News Sentinel and New Hampshire's Manchester Union Leader into the MSNBC.com affiliate network.

OurHouse.com, an online destination for home solutions, has announced that it has signed on new "home personalities" gardening expert Fran Sorin and lifestyle specialist Christine Dimmick.

Scholastic Inc., a children's publishing and media company, is launching Read For 2001, a worldwide classroom literacy campaign encouraging students to Read For 2001 seconds on December 8th at noon.

The New York Times has announced that Michael Oreskes, Washington bureau chief, has been named assistant managing editor and director of electronic news. His successor will be Jill Abramson, the newspaper's Washington editor.

Business 2.0 has expanded the role of Editor In Chief James Daly to include overseeing content for all of the brand's product offerings. Business 2.0 has also named Julie Tuttle as associate publisher. Also, current Executive Editor Russ Mitchell will become the magazine's editor; Damon Darlin, former managing editor at U.S. News & World Report, joins the staff as executive editor; and James Lardner will come aboard as senior features editor.

Cox Newspapers Inc. announced it has acquired the Austin Community Newspaper group from Houston-based Westward Communications for an undisclosed amount.

Universal Map Enterprises, Inc. a publisher and distributor of geographic information, announced the acquisition of The National Survey, Inc. The 88-year old operations in the Chester, Vermont location will be continued with plans for development, headed by Universal Map's James Shillabeer.

Jane von Mehren has been named Editor in Chief of Penguin Books. In this capacity von Mehren will oversee the editorial direction and shape of the Penguin trade paperback list and the execution of the Penguin publishing program. She will continue as Associate Publisher.

West Group, a provider of information to the legal community and courts, said it has seen a substantial jump in online requests for legal information on Florida election laws, as well as analysis of the blizzard of court rulings and legal opinions in the wake of the Florida election results dispute.
