Posted on January 3, 2001

Las Vegas Life magazine and the Las Vegas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) have launched their new design publication titled Architecture Las Vegas, an annual, collectible edition. Architecture Las Vegas recognizes outstanding architectural projects and firms doing business in Las Vegas. The publication is designed to educate, inspire and promote public interest in architectural excellence, while showcasing and honoring the best architecture in Las Vegas.

``As a new annual publication, Architecture Las Vegas provides a forum for expression of new visions of America's most unique and fastest growing city,'' said Sharon Bates, Las Vegas Life magazine publisher.

``The Las Vegas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects is delighted to have found a partner in Las Vegas Life magazine. For many years, we have envisioned a quality-designed publication that would feature the structures and designers unique to this special city. Las Vegas Life and the Greenspun Media Group have helped us take a step forward and make this goal a reality,'' expressed Randy Lavigne, AIA Las Vegas Chapter executive director.

Story features in the premier issue include: AIA design awards for 2000; an interview with Ralph Casazza, Nevada's latest silver medalist; an overview of campus architecture in Las Vegas; a roundtable discussion; and the AIA 2001 calendar of events. The roundtable discussion involved the ``thinktank'' of five great Las Vegas design minds, incorporating their thoughts, ideas and analysis of the Las Vegas architecture scene. The discussion participants were Steven Ressler van Gorp, urban design coordinator of the city of Las Vegas; Jose Gamez, graduate urban and architectural design professor at UNLV; Joyce Orias, project design director for interior design firm Yates-Silverman Inc.; Chuck Kubat, vice president of planning and design for Howard Hughes Corp.; and Dave Hickey, professor of art criticism and theory at UNLV.

Architecture Las Vegas is being mailed to Las Vegas Life subscribers with the January 2001 issue of the magazine. The double issue is available at newsstands and bookseller distribution points in the greater Las Vegas area and across the United States beginning Jan. 1, 2001. Starting in February 2001, Architecture Las Vegas will become a stand-alone newsstand/bookstore magazine with a cover price of US$4.95.
