Reuters reported that The New York Times will cut 69 jobs (17% of the positions) from New York Times Digital, its online unit.

According to the Chicago Tribune, authors are becoming addicted to check their rankings on Amazon.com's online sales rankings.

Space.com, has announced a management reorganization. As part of the reorganization, John C. Ferrara is promoted to Acting Chief Operating Officer, from Chief Financial Officer, succeeding Mitchell Cannold. All business units will now report to Ferrara, and Ferrara will report directly to Lou Dobbs, Space.com Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. In addition, Robert Zeller is promoted to Senior Vice President, Business Affairs

Bertelsmann AG, the international media enterprise, has announced the appointment of Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, 52, as president and Chief Executive Officer of BMG Entertainment.

101communications, a privately held media company dedicated to the acquisition and operation of IT media and information, announced the launch of 101direct, a new direct marketing list services division.

RedHerring.com has launched Herringtown, a channel that offers an online searchable database of privately held, technology-driven companies. Herringtown is used by venture capitalists and investors to search for funding opportunities; by technology professionals looking for partners and customers; and by private-company executives searching for partners, services providers, and competitive information.

The Lexis-Nexis Group announced that it has acquired Book Publishing Company, a leading producer of municipal codes and ordinances for local governments throughout the United States.

netLibrary, a provider of ebooks and Internet-based content management services, has announced a shared ebook resources agreement with SOLINET, a membership-based network serving more than 1,500 libraries in the Southeast.

According to Wired, Blogger, a free online service for creating weblogs (online diaries or journals), is out of cash and is accepting donations from its 80,000+ users to stay afloat. Blogger is owned by Pyra labs.

According to Reuters, Motley Fool is shutting down its German financial site because it was unable to find a German partner.

Etoys.com, an online toy retailer, laid off seventy percent of its workforce (700 employees) and closed its UK website.

Women.com Networks, Inc., among the top 50 most visited Internet properties, announced it has received notification from the NASDAQ that its securities have failed to meet the continued listing requirements for minimum bid price under the NASDAQ Stock Market rules. Specifically, the company's securities have not maintained a minimum bid price of at least $1.00 for 30 consecutive trading days as required. In accordance with the NASDAQ Stock Market rules, the company will be provided 90 calendar days, or until March 28, 2001 to regain compliance with the NASDAQ continued listing requirements.
