Through the eStore Partner program, Clicksmart.com develops and hosts eCommerce websites for independent book publishers and video producers in exchange for product consignments to its warehouse and ongoing revenue sharing in product sales. In addition to sending inventory to the Clicksmart.com warehouse, eStore partners are responsible for marketing and promoting the program. WizeUp Digital Textbooks and Colleges.com announced a joint marketing agreement to promote WizeUp's elearning products to students. WizeUp's elearning products will be offered to Colleges.com's users through the Colleges.com website, ``word of the day'' e-newsletters, U-Magazine and the College Press Network. Concurrently, WizeUp will promote Colleges.com by showcasing Colleges.com's content on www.wizeup.com. HSN (Home Shopping Network), a television shopping network, and Craftopia.com have announced that HSN will acquire the operating assets of Craftopia.com. The acquisition will provide HSN turnkey entrée into the arts and crafts industry. Craftopia.com is an online destination for crafting supplies and project ideas with over 60,000 products and projects. The site offers instruction on how to perform craft projects and then makes the corresponding items available for purchase. Harcourt General, Inc., an education and professional information company, announced it has signed a content licensing and distribution agreement with PetPlace.com, a pet knowledge and education site. The agreement between Harcourt and PetPlace.com will allow PetPlace.com to offer material from the veterinary health science resources of Harcourt's W. B. Saunders, Mosby, and Churchill Livingstone divisions in a searchable format for pet owners. The Reader's Digest Association, Inc. has announced the election of Jonathan B. Bulkeley to its Board of Directors. Bulkeley was CEO of Barnes & Noble.com in 1999 after spending six years with America Online. Before joining AOL, Bulkeley held a number of sales and marketing positions at Time Warner, Inc. in its magazine division. Primedia Consumer Magazines has announced that Liz Rioux, currently East Coast Advertising Manager for Primedia's American Baby Group, has been promoted to National Advertising Sales Manager. Forbes announced that Paul Maidment, a seasoned financial journalist and founding editor of FT.com, has joined Forbes in a dual position as executive editor of Forbes magazine and editor of Forbes.com. In his new role Maidment will oversee elements of Forbes magazine and all Forbes.com unique editorial content, with direct responsibility for the Forbes.com editorial staff. Work.com, an Internet resource for business, and inc.com, a small business resource, have announced a strategic alliance. Under the terms of the agreement, Work.com will provide inc.com with news and daily headlines from industry-specific categories. In return, Work.com's How To Guides will feature a wide range of content from inc.com. ThomasRegister.com, an industrial product and services sourcing and buying website, announced that their online database is now available on Yahoo! B2B Marketplace and on Yahoo! Electronics Marketplace, which is part of Yahoo! Industry Marketplaces, a business to business destination for information and services. Standard Media International announced that Barry Soicher has been named vice president, conferences and events, effective immediately. In this role, Soicher will oversee the development and management of The Standard's national and international conferences, as well as its Rooftop parties, which will also go international in 2001. Prior to The Standard, Soicher was the vice president of sales at Red Herring Communications. Fandom Inc., an expanded reality entertainment (fantasy, science fiction, horror and animation) network of multimedia, event and Internet ventures, announced that, due to job replications from recent acquisitions, the company is consolidating its business units and reducing its staff by 20 percent. Fandom's acquisitions in 2000 expanded the company network across multiple media platforms. In November, the company acquired Cinescape, which publishes Cinescape Magazine, an action/adventure/science fiction magazine focusing on film, television and new media. The company also owns and operates the Cinescape.com website. iUniverse.com, a provider of digital publishing services, has announced the acquisition of Corporate University Xchange (CUX), an education research and consulting firm for enterprise learning environments. CUX will become a new business unit within iUniverse.com focused on delivering content, consulting and community services to the enterprise learning marketplace. Microsoft Press, a division of Microsoft Corp., announced the creation and launch of a new series of books, titled ``Troubleshooting.'' The series debuts this month with the publication of seven titles and two companion websites. Education reformer Thomas P. Jandris has joined Education World, Inc., an Internet resource center for K-12 educators. Education World announced that Jandris will serve as president and chief education officer effective immediately. Jandris has served as an education consultant to the Republican Governors' Association and the Lieutenant Governors' Association as well as to former Texas Governor George W. Bush and Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating. AOL Time Warner Inc. announced that the worldwide membership of its flagship AOL service has surpassed the 27-million milestone. New Line Cinema's website for its upcoming action adventure trilogy The Lord of The Rings continues to generate very high levels of traffic on the Internet with more than 41 million hits since relaunching on Friday. In the earliest hours of the relaunch of www.lordoftherings.net, more than one million hits an hour were recorded from people exploring the site. New Line will unveil the first installment of The Lord of the Rings trilogy on December 19th with the release of The Fellowship of the Ring. ingenta, a global research gateway, was selected by Oxford University Press (OUP) to host the full text of an additional 60 OUP humanities and social science journals on the web - adding to the 90 OUP titles currently available. In addition, ingenta will create home pages for each journal, containing supplementary articles, printed issues and marketing information through their e-communities program. Minneapolis-based children's publisher Lerner Publishing Group will publish a book in which Governor Jesse Ventura shows children the inner workings of government. The not-yet-titled book will incorporate anecdotes, observations, and facts from Governor Ventura. It will also include full-color photographs of the governor at work.
