Conde Nast Acquires Majority Interest in Ideas Publishing Group

The Conde Nast Publications, Inc., has acquired a majority interest in Ideas Publishing Group, the Miami-based publisher of Spanish-language editions of major American magazines, it was announced by S.I. Newhouse, Jr., Chairman of Conde Nast and Mario A. Freude, I.P.G.'s Chairman and C.E.O.

``Working in partnership with I.P.G. as a publisher and a distributor will allow us to expand our presence in the expanding Latin American marketplace,'' Newhouse said.

``Conde Nast's marketing and operations expertise in publishing, coupled with our specialized knowledge of the Latin American markets, will enhance I.P.G.'s position as a global leader in Spanish-language publishing,'' Freude said.

The Ideas Publishing Group currently publishes nine titles, three in collaboration with Conde Nast - Vogue en Espanol, Glamour en Espanol, and Architectural Digest en Espanol -- and six others -- Newsweek en Espanol, Discover en Espanol, Teen en Espanol, Prevention en Espanol, Motor Trend en Espanol, and Men's Fitness en Espanol. These magazines are published under licensing arrangements, with The Washington Post Company, Weider Publications, Inc., Rodale Press Inc., Emap USA, and Disney Magazine Publishing Inc.

Conde Nast started a joint venture with I.P.G. in 1999 and launched Glamour en Espanol, Vogue en Espanol, and Architectural Digest en Espanol with them. I.P.G. will continue to publish all nine of its titles and expand its magazine portfolio in the future. The Miami-based Ideas Publishing Group was founded in 1995 and conducts business throughout Latin America through local offices in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Puerto Rico.
