Web Techniques magazine, a publication for Internet professionals, came forward to help Pyra Labs upgrade its Blogger service by providing the start-up company with a new server. Web Techniques is part of the CMP Media Internet & Mobile Group.

``We're really excited about Web Techniques' generous donation,'' said Evan Williams, President/CEO/Co-Founder of Pyra Labs. ``Web Techniques was the first of the web media to catch on to Blogger and the weblog phenomenon, and we've always been impressed with the quality of their content. The new server will help out our service and be greatly appreciated by our active community of publishers.''

Developed by Pyra Labs, Blogger is a free, web-based tool that allows people to publish to the Web instantly. Blogger is publishing tool in a growing area of online publishing known as Web logs, or ``blogs.'' Blogs are used for posting short news items, opinions, personal journals, or other content to a website. Blogger has become very popular, with over 21,000 new users in the last two months alone. To meet the increase in demand, Pyra Labs turned to its base of loyal users and asked for donations towards the purchase of new servers. With the Web Techniques donation included, Pyra Labs has now brought in over $15,000 in contributions.

Amit Asaravala, Editor-in-Chief of Web Techniques magazine, commented, ``The editors and I have always been impressed with Pyra Labs' contribution to Web publishing. Our readers feel the same way, as was evident when they chose to give Blogger a Readers' Choice nomination for the 2000 Web Tools Awards. During a time when funding is tight, this server is our way of supporting the community and spirit that has helped build the Internet.''
