Cooking.com said it will eliminate 36 jobs, representing about 20% of its workforce.

BarnesandNoble.com announced a 350 employee layoff and reported deep 4th quarter losses. Business 2.0 reported that the company may eventually be merged back into its parent company, Barnes and Noble, Inc., the bricks and mortar retailer.

The Spring 2001 Directory of Ebook Publishers is now available for free online and as a PDF download. This listing includes 53 ebook publishers with descriptions and links to the individual publisher's websites. Also included in the guide are links to publisher's groups, information on promotional efforts for authors and publishers and details about the new Franklin eBookman Reader. The guide is provided by the Directory of Epublishers, which is maintained by Jude Morris.

Audible Inc. announced that Microsoft Corp. has agreed to increase its stake in the company with a $10 million investment. Audible announced a previous investment from Microsoft in 1999. Microsoft's new investment will support Audible's efforts to extend its spoken-audio content and technology to new audiences including wireless customers, using Microsoft platforms such as Windows Media technologies. The companies also intend to work together to co-market Audible's audio services to consumers and corporate customers.

Roy Kim has been named COO of Fandom Inc., a media distribution company that focuses on an affinity audience of fans ages 18-44. Fandom Chief Executive Officer Debra Streicker-Fine made the announcement.

IUMA.com, the Internet Underground Music Archive, a resource for independent musicians, has closed its business. The company had been acquired by Emusic in in June of 1999, but Emusic has decided not to renew IUMA's funding for 2001.

DevX.com Inc., an IT development portal, announced the launch of the IBM Data Management Pavilion, a collaboration between DevX and IBM's data management team. Features include technical tips and techniques, new implementation templates from case studies, educational offerings and events, plus discussion forums for asking ``how-to''s of the expert community.

ScreamingMedia, a provider of content solutions, has launched Syndication!Connect. Syndication!Connect is the newest service offered through ScreamingMedia's suite of technology services, which are geared toward enabling large enterprises and media companies to deliver content across their own web and wireless networks.

HollowHillsPublishing.com has opened its virtual doors to the public. The epublishing site is devoted to inovative, non-genre based fiction.

Jeff Brown, Vice President and General Manager, Professional/Trade Publishing, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., announced the launch of BoldIdeas, an online collection of 40 of Wiley's top business publications. The service is offering free trial access through April 30, 2001, to the online full text of each of the publications. BoldIdeas provides access to journals and newsletters in the areas of Business, Management, Accounting and Finance, and Environmental Management.

Reuters reported that Motley Fool, an online finance websites, cut 30% of its workforce.

CardStore.com announced that it has officially changed its corporate name to Touchpoint, Inc. CardStore.com will remain a service of Touchpoint.

eContent Inc's MPI Media Productions International, Inc. (``MPI''), the television production subsidiary of ETNT has entered an agreement with Warner Books to produce and distribute a public television special featuring Linda Richman, author of the recently released I'd Rather Laugh: How To Be Happy Even When Life Has Other Plans For You, a ``self-hope'' book for anyone who has experienced pain, loss or depression.

WebED, Inc., a provider of Internet-based professional development training for educators, has announced a content agreement with Staff Development for Educators, a subsidiary of Highlights for Children, Inc. and a national provider of professional development training and resources for preK-grade 8 educators.

CollegeLink.com Incorporated announced that it has executed a definitive purchase agreement to sell substantially all of its assets to TMP Worldwide Inc., the parent of Monster.com. CollegeLink intends to change its name at the closing of the transaction and thereafter will examine business opportunities as they arise, including opportunities to acquire other companies, to be acquired by other companies, or to develop new businesses. CollegeLink is a leading provider of online pre-college services, including college searches, college admission, scholarship search, electronic college applications, financing college and college success.
