The Walt Disney Internet Group is eliminating another 135 jobs. Most of the cutbacks will come from ABCNEWS.com and ABC.com.

Soapbox.com, a digital self-publishing service for financial and business content, has shut down. The website was launched six months ago in August, 2000 by The Motley Fool, an online provider of financial information.

Struggling online toy retailer Etoys.com is planning on filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy and shutting down its website on March 8th.

iExalt, Inc., a Christian products and services provider, announced a capital investment of $6.0 million by Woodcrest Capital II Limited Partnership, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. The initial funding will be $1.0 million paid in installments over twelve months, and subsequent funding of $5.0 million, subject to certain covenants. iExalt owns a variety of companies including Christian Happenings, a Christian events magazine, Christian Times newspapers, ListenFirst.com, iSermons.com and ChristianSpeakers.com.

J. River, Inc. tripled Napster's $1 billion bid by offering record labels $3 billion over a five year period for unlimited access to content. J. River plans to build a subscription service based on Media Jukebox. J. River, Inc. is the developer of the Media Jukebox software, which plays a variety popular music formats, including MP3, Audible, Microsoft Windows Media, LiquidAudio and RealAudio.

PlanetOut Corporation and Gay.com's parent company Online Partners, providers of online community, content and services for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, announced that the Gay.com and PlanetOut.com Internet sites have each surpassed the one million registered member mark. Online Partners and PlanetOut announced in December 2000 that they would be merging to create a global media and services company. The merger is projected to close in the next month, pending government approval.

John Remes, president and general manager of KARE-TV, Gannett's NBC affiliate in Minneapolis, also has been named a senior vice president of Gannett Television. The announcement was made by Cecil L. Walker, chairman and CEO of Gannett Broadcasting.

CMP Media Inc., a provider of technology news and information, and HotJobs.com, an Internet recruiting website, are teaming up to create a series of job boards catering to high-tech professionals. HotJobs.com will build and operate the job boards for CMP Media's leading Web sites including EDTN Network, Information Week, Internet Week, Planet IT, and Commweb. The co-branded job boards will be featured within career portals customized to serve the needs of each respective market.

The Marine Technology Society has announced the launch of its newly designed website. The website offers services, products, and information for those interested in marine science and technology. For students, researchers and scientists, the website offers a free, searchable database of abstracts from the MTS Journal. Abstracts can be downloaded for free. Reprints of entire articles and the MTS Journal can be purchased through the online shopping cart. All publications, including journals, conference and workshop proceedings, and educational material are available for online purchase.

The American Association on Mental Retardation (AAMR) has announced a new internet-based service called RADAR that monitors major newspapers and trade publications for press coverage of national and international disability issues. Examples of major issues to be tracked in RADAR include articles on abuse, housing, transportation, employment, aging, and transportation. Developments in any of these issues can have a real impact on the lives of persons with disabilities.

Infotrieve, a provider of article research services, announced partnerships with Harvard Business School Publishing and The University of Chicago Press to offer the university presses' electronic journals within its e-Content collection. Infotrieve's e-Content collection is a growing body of peer-reviewed journals and periodicals available in digital format. Articles within the e-Content collection are accessible to Infotrieve customers through free searches and can be obtained on a pay-per-article basis.

Digital Goods, a provider of digital content marketing, has launched Amplifi, which provides technology tools and services for content providers to help them sell their digital content.

Kathy Quattrone was named Executive Vice President & General Manager of Discovery Health Channel. John Ford, President Content Group, Discovery Networks, U.S., made the announcement. In her new position, Quattrone will serve as Discovery Health Channel's chief editorial executive, responsible for strategic development and execution of programming and production strategies for the cable health channel, discoveryhealth.com and other interactive services.
