The American Spectator Relaunches

Posted on March 7, 2001

The American Spectator, a conservative monthly, is being relaunched this week under the new leadership of Gilder Publishing's George Gilder; R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. the magazine's long-time Editor-in-Chief; and Richard Vigilante as the new Editor and Publisher. While staying true to its original mission of conservative leadership, the ``new'' American Spectator sports a new look, new feature sections and a new focus on issues arising out of technology and the New Economy.

``The crucial political battles of the next century will be about technology and the great wealth it creates in the New Economy,'' comments Vigilante. ``Conservatives will need to understand technology issues as well as they do the economy or defense.''

American politics have become ``a contest of fear vs. hope,'' Gilder said. ``The Luddite Left, from the Unabomber to Al Gore are so terrified of the future they want to stop it from happening. At the new American Spectator we're passionate for growth, eager for the future, excited by opportunity.''

The redesigned publication will also provide content for technology investors. Gilder commented that many of the magazine's conservative readers are of the "investor class" so it makes sense for American Spectator to provide this type of information. Some of the new features for investors include profiles of hi-tech entrepreneurs and companies and an "opportunities section", which provides information about investing in the new economy. Gilder Publishing acquired acquired The American Spectator and The American Spectator Online from The American Spectator Educational Foundation in September, 2000.
