Philip Kaplan, the owner and producer of F____dCompany.com, is now charging for access to the unfiltered comments submitted to his website, which provides news and rumors about doomed Internet and technology companies. The new "premium services" cost $75.00 a month to view all the rumors the website receives each month (FC receives 400 each day according to Kaplan) and be able to search the archives of comments posted on FC's message boards. A second option, at a cost of $25.00 a month, is also provided for those who just wanted to be able to search the message board archives. Very few companies have found success selling fee-based subscriptions to online content. Those that have been successful have primarily been financial information providers, such as the Wall Street Journal, which recently reported over 500,000 subscribers to the fee-based web edition of the Journal.

Cahners' Media Division, a division of Cahners Business Information, announced that Lawrence Oliver has been promoted to vice president and group publisher, Television Group. Oliver, who was previously group publisher, will report to William McGorry, senior vice president, Television and Telecommunications Group. As vice president and group publisher, Oliver's responsibilities include overseeing sales and marketing efforts for Multichannel News, Cablevision, and Broadcasting & Cable, in addition to identifying and developing new business and editorial growth areas for each publication, in both print and electronic media. Previously, Oliver was the first publisher of Mediaweek magazine.

Gina Wright, President and CEO of The Leader Publishing Group, announced the launch of Atlanta Jewish Life, a quarterly lifestyle magazine for Atlanta's Jewish community. The premiere issue will feature reporting from the community's educational front lines where parents' values collide on the way to the classroom. Readers will also be treated to recipes for Passover and reminiscences from Snack 'N Shop, an Atlanta institution.

AccuData America is launching a quarterly newsletter this spring that will focus on direct marketing strategies specifically for the energy industry. AccuData's new Energy Data Report will discuss data strategies that are proving effective for today's energy marketers; it will serve marketers in both regulated and competitive environments. The premiere issue of the Energy Data Report will launch May 1, but a special preview edition will be sent the first week in April to qualified energy marketers who sign up by Friday, March 23.

Penton Media, Inc. announced its acquisition of Tech Conferences, Incorporated (TCI) of Monroe, CT, a conference producer serving the computer programming and applications development market. TCI will become part of Penton's Technology Media Division portfolio. It will fall under Penton's Duke Communications, an integrated media company serving the Windows 2000 and AS/400 operating systems markets, and other technology operating platform markets. Duke publishes five magazines in the United States, and one title in the United Kingdom, including flagships Windows 2000 Magazine and NEWS/400. Duke is based in Loveland, Colorado, and became part of Penton Technology Media in August 2000.

International Data Group, an IT media company, announced the launch of Digital Fortune, the Chinese edition of The Industry Standard. Debuting in China as a bi-weekly, the magazine has an initial circulation of 60,000 and companion website www.digitalfortune.com.cn.

ITworld.com, a resource for enterprise IT professionals, announced it is migrating LinuxWorld.com into ITworld.com beginning next month. LinuxWorld.com Editor-in-Chief Kathy Badertscher and Senior Editor John Pancharian will continue to guide Linux content development and community building on ITworld.com. LinuxWorld.com columnists including Nick Petreley, Joe Barr and Richard Sharpe will also continue their roles.

Forrest Stone has joined Education World, Inc., a technology and educational media company, as its executive editor in chief, reporting to CEO Kevin Howell. Prior to joining Education World, Forrest was editor in chief of Lifetime Learning Systems, a subsidiary of Weekly Reader Corporation, where he had been executive editor in charge of Weekly Reader magazine.

Michael Koehler and Elizabeth Klumpp are the newest additions to the team of PA Today, a medical journal published by HMP Communications, targeting the interests of physician assistants. Koehler will serve as the publisher of the journal with Klumpp as the Senior Editor. Before coming to HMP Communications Koehler was the Director of Publishing Sales and Development for the American College of Physicians - American Society of Internal Medicine. Klumpp is a veteran to HMP. Joining the company in 1993, she served as the managing editor of Wounds and Extended Care Product News.

Journal Register Company Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Robert M. Jelenic announced several publisher appointments in the Company's Connecticut and Central New England clusters. The following appointments will be effective Friday, March 16, 2001: In Connecticut, Thomas E. Rice, currently Journal Register Company senior vice president, operations, overseeing the Company's Connecticut and Central New England cluster operations, will also assume the duties of publisher of the New Haven Register, Minuteman Newspapers, Elm City Newspapers and Shore Line Newspapers, as well as president of Connecticut's County Kids and Imprint Print, replacing John L. Shields. Shields will assume the duties of publisher of the Taunton Daily Gazette, Taunton, Massachusetts, replacing Michael F. O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan will assume the duties of publisher of Southern Rhode Island Newspapers, a weekly group based in Wakefield, Rhode Island, and publisher of Hometown Newspapers, a newspaper group consisting of 4 non-daily publications and the Kent County Daily Times that is based in West Warwick, Rhode Island, replacing Judith G. Lepre. Rice assumed the position of Journal Register Company senior vice president, operations in November 2000, following the completion of the Company's sale of its St. Louis weekly group, the Suburban Newspapers of Greater St. Louis.

Cahners' Media Division, a division of Cahners Business Information, announced Michael L. Roggero has been named group publisher. He was previously chief operating officer at Cahners' subsidiary eLogic Corp. Roggero will have responsibility for the Information Services Group in the Media Division.

Major League Baseball and The New York Daily News will launch the second year of Major League Baseball en espanol, a bilingual (Spanish/English) baseball publication that will focus on Latino Major League Baseball players through in-depth interviews and feature stories. The four-color publication, which is produced in conjunction with MLB sponsors Anheuser-Busch, Century 21, MBNA, RadioShack, Pepsi, Amtrack, Post Cereals, Nabisco-Ritz, and Master Card, and MLB licensee New Era, will be inserted into seven major U.S market newspapers that have a high Latino readership. Markets and newspapers include Los Angeles (La Opinion), New York (Daily News), Miami (El Nuevo Herald), Chicago (La Raza), Houston (La Subasta), Dallas (La Subasta) and San Francisco/San Jose (La Oferta Review, El Vistado, Estadio). Total circulation for the publication, which will have subsequent issues published in conjunction with the 2001 All-Star Game and World Series, is estimated at more than one million.

Easyriders, Inc. announced that J. Robert Fabregas has been appointed chief executive officer and president. Fabregas had been named interim CEO last October when William Prather resigned as chief executive officer as a consequence of the company's sale of M&B Restaurants L.C., its restaurant subsidiary doing business as El Paso Bar-B-Que Co., to Culinary Holdings Inc. Fabregas continues to serve as chief financial officer. Easyriders currently publishes more than a dozen popular motorcycle, special-interest and lifestyle magazines, with a total worldwide readership of more than six million.

HealthGate Data Corp., a provider of content and health management tools to the healthcare industry, announced that it has requested a hearing from NASDAQ to appeal a notice it received regarding the potential delisting of the company's common stock from the NASDAQ National Market pursuant to NASDAQ Marketplace Rule 4450(a)(5). HealthGate's hearing request will defer the delisting of the company's securities pending a decision by the NASDAQ Listing Qualifications Panel. In its notice to the company, NASDAQ informed HealthGate that it had failed to maintain a minimum bid price of at least $1.00 per share in accordance with NASDAQ Marketplace Rule 4450(a)(5).

Strawberry Hill Press, a publisher of titles including books by Chicano poet Gary Soto, popular non-fiction mainstay Lucile Bogue, film comedian Jack Oakie and over 100 titles including fiction, self-help and cooking, has gotten a new look ... and focus. Strictly Books, Inc. (SBI) out of San Francisco has acquired the name and assets of the 25-year-old firm as one of its three divisions for an undisclosed sum. Strawberry Hill Press will be the publishing arm of what now includes book promotion (Strictly Book Promotions) and, in the future, Internet Broadcasting. SBI has removed thirty titles from Strawberry Hill Press, revamped the catalogue and will publish point-of-purchase display books this spring. The website includes the catalogue, a sale book section and buying options for individuals and bookstores alike.

Open Market, Inc., a provider of content-driven ebusiness solutions, announced that it has formed a strategic technology partnership with ScreamingMedia, providers of content solutions. Through this alliance, the companies have integrated Open Market's Content Server Enterprise Edition, a platform for content management and delivery applications, with ScreamingMedia's SiteWare, a technology platform for the aggregation, syndication, processing and integration of digital content.

Ziff Davis Media Inc. announced that Dan Schwartz has joined the company as Vice President and Publishing Director of Ziff Davis Smart Business. Schwartz will oversee all national sales, marketing and editorial initiatives for the publication. Schwartz had been Chief Executive Officer of Adwise.net, an advertising infrastructure company. Schwartz will report directly to Pete Longo, Executive Vice President and Publishing Director of Ziff Davis Media's Business Media Group.
