Fringe, Inc. Debuts Fringe Golf Magazine

FringeGolf, a new bimonthly golf lifestyle magazine geared to younger golf enthusiasts, has launched. Published by Fringe, Inc. of San Francisco, FringeGolf hit newsstands this week with an initial circulation of 100,000. Founded in 1999, Fringe, Inc. is based in San Francisco, Calif.

``The FringeGolf magazine is a manifestation of our efforts to create the ultimate media platform to serve the modern golf movement,'' said Andrew Fritz, president and founder of Fringe, Inc. ``We will consistently deliver a rich, graphically pleasing experience that digs deeper into the game's human element and focuses on golf's most important and quite often overlooked element - fun.''

The premiere issue's cover, which features an image of a modern golfer's ``dimpled'' head, unveils the company's tagline -- Ground Zero for the Modern Golfer. Highlights of the first issue include a look at the life of ``El Rey,'' PGA professional Carlos Franco, whose success on tour is providing hope in his impoverished homeland of Paraguay. Other feature elements include an expose' on Las Vegas golf hustlers, a glimpse at the passion some Catholic nuns have for the links, a Q&A session with MTV's Carson Daly, an interview with the world's first female long-drive champ, and a tongue-in-cheek instructional look at how to hit free range balls.

``The metaphor of the 'fringe' speaks directly to the modern golfer and recognizes the game's exciting evolution - both as competitive sport and recreational pastime,'' said Fritz. ``At the same time, we respect golf's rules and traditions and hope to encourage the ancient game to reflect a modern sense of lifestyle.''

The publication is an extension of FringeGolf's initial activities on the Internet at FringeGolf.com. Version 3.0 of the FringeGolf.com site is launching concurrently with the magazine. Under the direction of Fritz, Nathan Joblin and David Latimer are co-publishers, Mark Conley is editor, Dennis Pettigrew is director of creation and Damon Watson is director of sales.
