It will take the Company approximately two to three months to complete the buyout program due to certain legally required waiting periods. Due to the nature of a voluntary buyout program, the Company cannot estimate in advance, with any degree of certainty, how many individuals the staff reduction program will ultimately affect. · The Deal and Los Angeles Times Syndicate International (LATSI) announced a licensing agreement that makes The Daily Deal content available for republication exclusively in print media outlets based outside the United States. The agreement also allows LATSI to make The Daily Deal content available to its markets for digital use. · Penton Media, Inc. announced the launch of Connected Home Media. This initiative will begin with the email newsletter Connected Home Express and a website. · Alabama Live, a website for Alabama residents and tourists, announced a new website design for its home and city pages and a new logo. The site currently receives over 30 million page views per month. Alabama Live, based in Huntsville, Alabama, is an affiliate of Advance Internet, Inc., a subsidiary of Advance Publications, owner of The Birmingham News, The Huntsville Times, and the Mobile Register. · AllAfrica Global Media, a multi-media content service provider and distributor of African news and information worldwide, has signed a strategic agreement with COMTEX News Network, Inc., a business-to-business infomediary, to increase the accessibility of Africa-related news online. AllAfrica operates allafrica.com, and disseminates coverage from over 80 African media organizations, as well as reporting and analysis produced by the AllAfrica news team. · Audible, Inc. has announced the redesign and relaunch of its Subscription Center. All programs that are available from Audible on a subscription basis can be viewed on one page, and are also organized into categories by media (newspapers, radio & magazines) as well as genre (news & current events, business & finance, culture & entertainment, science & technology). The number of subscriptions that Audible offers has grown from one to more than 45 over the course of two years. · Indexmedico launched its re-designed bilingual website of medical information. The site facilitates the search and retrieval of medical information for Spanish-speaking health-care providers and consumers. It provides a summary in Spanish of each article so the reader can decide if the information is relevant. Every summary is linked to the complete source article. · Red Herring Research, the research unit of Red Herring Communications, Inc., has launched offering reports that analyze financial, survey, and market trend data within key technology sectors. The first round of reports focuses on topics at the center of the wireless and Internet sectors such as Bluetooth, streaming media, and wireless Internet service providers (WISPs). Reports are available on Red Herring's Research Channel. RHR analysis is priced within a range from $95 to $750. · OneOffshore Inc. announced that Richard ``Dick'' Ghiselin, former vice president and group publisher at Hart Publications, has joined the firm as the new ODS-Petrodata Group Publisher. In his new position, Mr. Ghiselin will lead OneOffshore's publishing business. His responsibilities include developing the overall strategy for the ODS-Petrodata Group, new product development and customer relations. The ODS-Petrodata Group currently publishes over 65 publications, online newsletters, wire services and databases. · NewsRx, a provider of life science databases and daily and weekly health news, announced the launch of Stem Cell Week, a new database product. It is available as a print or electronic weekly report and will be published beginning in May. The company already publishes other reports on stem cell research. · HomeSeekers.com, a provider of online real estate technology and services, has completed the sale of its Pacific Northwest print publication. HomeSeekers.com had previously announced its intentions to divest its print publishing operations. Late in the March Quarter 2001, HomeSeekers completed the sale of its HomeSeekers magazine that served the Eugene, Ore. area to a privately owned company. The total sale price was $350,000. As previously announced, the Company continues to seek to divest its Orlando, Fla. magazine. · Eastman Kodak Company announced that Patricia F. Russo is joining the company as President and Chief Operating Officer, reporting to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Daniel A. Carp. Russo will oversee the day-to-day operations of Kodak's operating divisions and serve as the CEO's strategic partner in pursuing the business opportunities created by the convergence of imaging and information management technologies. · The staffs of World Almanac Books, Facts On File News Services, and Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedia have opened the new offices of the World Almanac Education Group at Seventh Avenue and 38th Street in New York City. The floor above the publishers houses the new corporate headquarters of their parent company, WRC Media. According to Educational Marketer, WRC Media was the nation's largest supplementary materials publisher for 1999. WRC Media Inc has four principal operating subsidiaries: CompassLearning, Inc., Weekly Reader Corporation, World Almanac Education Group, Inc and American Guidance Service, Inc. · EarthWeb Inc., a provider of IT industry information, announced that Scot W. Melland has joined the Company as President and Chief Executive Officer effective April 23, 2001. Melland will succeed current President and CEO, Peter A. Derow, who has been named Vice Chairman of the Board. · The 10 winners of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize will be announced Saturday, April 28, at a public ceremony beginning at 7:30 p.m. at UCLA's Royce Hall. This year, The Times will award its first Book Prize in the Mystery/Thriller category.
