Posted on June 6, 2001

Cygnus Business Media, a business-to-business media company, announced that it has acquired Design/Build Business magazine, a publication with nearly 60,000 subscribers serving builders and architects. The addition of the publication expands the company's existing Building & Home Products portfolio which currently includes Kitchen & Bath Design News, Qualified Remodeler, Solid Surface, Laminating Design & Technology and Wood Digest.

``Our acquisition strategy has been to obtain properties that will enhance as well as broaden advertiser reach within each of our 14 major markets,'' says Paul Mackler, president and CEO of Cygnus Business Media. ``Design/Build Business has served the residential and light construction market since 1935 and remains one of the industry's more significant publications. Its integration into our portfolio will expand our multiple medium platform for advertisers interested in reaching this niche as well as other segments of the marketplace.''

Cygnus Publishing President Rich Reiff says in the announcement, "As business paradigms change and manufacturers begin to offer products in overlapping market segments, it is essential that our business-to-business model respond by providing diverse opportunities to reach customers. This acquisition will afford access to another segment of the building & home products market through an already established and notable editorial resource."

The Design/Build Business website was included in the transaction. It will become a part of Cygnus Interactive. Jim McKellar, the son of the founder of McKellar Publications, Inc. & current publisher will remain on for at least 12 months to assist with the transition and train its new publisher. Eliot Sefrin, group publisher, will play a leading role in assimilating the new property into the group.
