· Fortune and CNET Networks, Inc. have announced the launch of the Fortune CNET Technology Review. The special June 2001 issue and sister website, www.fortune.cnet.com, provide a technology resource combining product information and reviews with articles about business trends and related applications of technology. This is the first of two issues that will be produced this year.

· BET Interactive has relocated its New York offices to 770 Broadway in New York City, home to several Viacom owned properties that include MTV Interactive (MTVi), Nickelodeon.com, and Viacom Interactive Ventures. Viacom obtained an equity interest in BET Interactive via the acquisition of BET Holdings earlier this year. BET Interactive consists of BET.com and 360hiphop.com. The headquarters for BET Interactive will remain in Washington, D.C.

· internet.com Venture Partners III, part of the affiliated venture capital arm of INT Media Group, Inc., announced that one of its portfolio companies, Backwire.com, was acquired by Leap Wireless International, Inc., for an undisclosed amount of Leap Wireless common stock.

· 1stBooks Library, a provider of epublishing services, announced the opening of its New York office at 237 W. 35th Street. Tim Jacobs, President of 1stBooks Library, made the announcement. The New York office will function primarily as the 1stBooks Business Development and East Coast Sales office. Based in Bloomington, Indiana, 1stBooks Library was established in 1997.

· Steven F. Binder, previously Senior Vice President, Corporate Sales of The Conde Nast Publications Inc., has been named Senior Vice President, Publisher of Golf Digest magazine, it was announced by Mitchell B. Fox, President and CEO of The Golf Digest Companies. Fox also announced the promotion of Keith Levitt to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He was formerly The Golf Digest Companies' Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Robert L. Maxon, who served as Senior Vice President and Group Publisher, has been named Executive Vice President of the company. Nancy Weber has been promoted from Vice President to Senior Vice President of Marketing and Promotion.

· America Online, Inc. announced a new Latino content area on AOL's US service, providing AOL members interested in all things Latino with bilingual content and community features. AOL Latin America will program and manage the Latino content area for the AOL US service. AOL Latin America operates Spanish-language services in Mexico, and Argentina, and will draw on and highlight content provided by its local and regional partners for the new area, which is available through AOL Keywords: Latino and Hispanic. The AOL Latino area will also draw from partners and content on the US service. Leading Latino brands including People en Espanol, Hispanic Business, Super Onda, EFE and Gusto Magazine are among the area's key partners, providing original content focused specifically on Latino interests.

· eWanted has announced its new online book selling system. The site allows book buyers to locate, select and comparison shop for books, and booksellers to upload inventory and produce listings. Approximately 200 booksellers have already signed up to participate in the new program and over two million books are listed for sale on the site.

· Investment Advisor, a magazine serving financial planners and Standard & Poor's, a provider of financial information, will jointly produce an exclusive monthly page designed to give planners new tools for evaluating mutual funds. Starting with the July, 2001 issue of Investment Advisor, the Mutual Fund Sector Focus page will feature cutting-edge analysis of individual fund sectors and performance data on top-performing funds.

· Element K has announced a partnership with Harvard Business School Publishing (HBSP). According to the partnership, Element K will offer HBSP's Interactive Manager series online to its customers starting July 2001. The Interactive Manager series online includes three course bundles: High Performance Management, General Management and Finance for Managers. The courses cover issues facing managers today and feature in-depth case studies with streaming video simulations.

· ebrary, a provider of software for online content delivery, announced that it has signed content distribution agreements with multiple college publishers including MIT Press, University of California Press, Stanford University Press, Columbia University Press, University of Texas Press, University of North Carolina Press, University of Nebraska Press, University of Hawaii Press, University of Wisconsin Press, Marquette University Press, Purdue University Press and University of Utah Press. ebrary also announced a partnership with Springer-Verlag, a subsidiary of Bertelsmann AG. The partnership will bring ebrary collections of mathematics and statistics titles that will be available to channel partners.

· PennMedia, an advertising network for email publications, announced that recent acquisitions and growth have pushed their total subscriber counts to 62 million. Subscribers to PennMedia email publications opt-in to receive content addressing a wide range of topics including daily jokes, recipes, sports scores, entertainment news, technology tips and more. All publications are free to subscribers and are subsidized through brief text advertisements inserted within the content.

· Light Reading, an information resource for the optical networking industry, has launched Optical Oracle, a electronic research and advisory source that provides supplemental and time-sensitive analysis to investors and industry leaders tracking developments in the optical networking industry.

· Tech Wire launched its New England Tech Wire email newsletter on Tuesday. The newsletter summarizes the top technology, venture capital, and Internet stories in New England. Boston-based New England Tech Wire, which is owned by CapWire Inc., builds on the company's success in the Mid-Atlantic region with its Potomac Tech Wire newsletter that has 23,000 daily subscribers. The publication will earn revenue through classified advertisements and sponsorships. It will focus on Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

· News Communications, Inc. announced the appointment of James A. Finkelstein as its new president and chief executive officer, effective immediately. Mr. Finkelstein was the former owner of National Law Publishing Company, publishers of The New York Law Journal and The National Law Journal, which he sold to Wasserstein Perrella. News Communications is the publisher of The Hill, a publication covering Capitol Hill, and Dan's Papers, a weekly publication in the Hamptons. The company also owns other community weekly newspapers in New York.

· The Gannett Foundation has sold The Marietta (OH) Times to Ogden Newspapers Inc. of Wheeling, WV. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. Proceeds from the transaction will be used to fund the Foundation and its grants to communities throughout the country. The Marietta Times recently was donated to the Foundation by Gannett Co., Inc.

· Digital Island, Inc. announced it has delivered several thousand digital copies of Dilbert creator Scott Adams' latest book, God's Debris, in the first week of publication. DigitalOwl, a provider of digital information delivery, provided hosting and digital rights security for Adams' first ebook. DigitalOwl selected Digital Island's Footprint Content Delivery service to reduce its operations cost and to speed the download of God's Debris, available exclusively as an ebook at www.dilbert.com. Footprint accelerates the download of DigitalOwl's free TitleVision application, which is required to read Adams' ebook.

· Scholastic Inc., a children's media and publishing company, announced the launch of ``Summer Splashdown!'', a special report for kids online at Scholastic News Zone, a source on the web for age-appropriate news content for kids. From ``clickable'' interactive maps revealing what kids across the country are doing during the summer to stories on unusual camps, national parks and roadside attractions, Summer Splashdown! reports on news and trends of high interest to kids, while also offering a range of rich interactive features designed to get kids reading and writing during the summer months.

· DigitalOwl, a provider of digital information delivery, announced that Peter Simon has joined the company as Vice President of Strategic Development. With more than 25 years of experience at leading media and publishing companies, Mr. Simon will be responsible for forging strategic partnerships with publishers and distributors of premium information. Mr. Simon joined DigitalOwl from The Deal, LLC, a media company providing editorial content to financial, corporate and legal professionals, where he served as Director of Content Licensing. Mr. Simon began his career with Reed-Elsevier PLC Group.

· Pageflex, Inc., announced a preview of .EDIT, a browser-based technology for the design and editing of rich documents. .EDIT allows a company to provide an Internet-based page layout tool to its end users without requiring the use of any plug-ins. A company deploying .EDIT can create templates that allow it to maintain its brand/corporate identity by using approved fonts, design elements, and images. .EDIT is also customizable to allow companies to choose the set of features accessible by the end user. Applications of this technology might include sales & marketing literature, flyers, display advertisements, business cards, and restaurant menus.

· OpenMind Publishing Group, a collaborative publishing service, and Blackboard Inc., an Internet infrastructure software company for e-education, announced an agreement that provides Blackboards's customer base of 1,800 schools access to OpenMind's customizable content for the fall semester.

· SkipWire announced partnerships with companies to provide palm enthusiasts with the ability to wirelessly build and access a personal library of online ebooks for reference from a Palm device. Visitors can browse and select from SkipWire's collection of free and purchasable ebooks and create a personalized library using a MySkipWire account and SkipWire's software program, DownStream to wirelessly download favorite files.

· Trivantis Corporation, a provider of elearning authoring solutions, announced the launch of Lectora Pocket Publisher -- a software tool for authoring and publishing elearning content to the Pocket PC. Lectora Pocket Publisher is an authoring system which gives trainers and educators the ability to develop and publish proprietary learning content for delivery to Pocket PCs.

· Michael De Luca has been named the new Head of Production for DreamWorks Pictures, it was announced by DreamWorks Pictures co-heads Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. De Luca will be taking over the post t emporarily held by DreamWorks principal Jeffrey Katzenberg. In his new position, De Luca will be responsible for overseeing development and production of the studio's motion picture projects, as well as the day-to-day operations of the division. He will report directly to Walter Parkes and Jeffrey Katzenberg. Michael De Luca served as President and Chief Operating Officer of New Line Productions for seven years.

· Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine, a childhood parenting magazine published bi-monthly by Scholastic Inc. announced a ten percent increase in readership, reaching a total of 6 million readers nationwide. The results were measured and reported by Mediamark Research Inc. (MRI) audits, a provider of multimedia audience research data for the advertising community.
