· A Houston businessman says Forbes Magazine's inaccurate portrayal of him as a billionaire is ``wildly inflated fantasy'' which has cost him millions of dollars in legal fees defending frivolous lawsuits in Texas and California.

``Our family's actual net worth, as determined by numerous qualified appraisers, is a fraction of the current number used by Forbes,'' said E. Pierce Marshall. ``Forbes has continued to repeat this wild speculation for years, even after we have shown them that their process for calculating net worth is incorrect and is not an accepted form of appraisal. Forbes knows better or it should know better if it claims any expertise in covering business."

· In a letter to its authors, epublishing service provider Xlibris announced that it will begin paying authors through ecount, an electronic payment services company. The company has also provided an ecount FAQ.

· Gail Collins, a columnist on The New York Times's Op-Ed page, has been named editorial page editor, effective in August. She will succeed Howell Raines, who will become executive editor of The Times in September. Ms. Collins, 55, was a member of The Times's editorial board from 1995 to 1999, when she began writing the ``Public Interests'' column for the Op-Ed page. She has also hosted The Times's cable news program, ``This Week Close-Up,'' on New York 1 since 1997. Before joining The Times, she was a columnist at New York Newsday from 1991 to 1995 and before that, at The New York Daily News from 1985 to 1991.

· Newsweek.MSNBC.com has launched Weekend Guide, a new weekly feature highlighting the latest news in entertainment, living, shopping and more. MSNBC.com and Newsweek correspondents will review new movies, music and television shows and offer advice on shopping, home improvement, travel and family entertainment. The Weekend Guide is updated every Thursday night. Weekend Guide television segments are also part of MSNBC Cable coverage. The segments air Fridays on MSNBC and feature interviews with Newsweek correspondents discussing a variety of stories about the most noteworthy events for the weekend.

· Imagine Media announced that Don Kimenker, formerly associate publisher of MacAddict magazine, has been promoted to the position of publisher. Kimenker originally joined the MacAddict staff as regional advertising manager in 1997, shortly after the launch of the magazine. Prior to his recent promotion at MacAddict, Kimenker has held down the associate publisher position since March 2000.

· Hilary A. Schneider, chief executive officer of Red Herring Communications, Inc., has named Julian Lowin as publisher of Red Herring, a technology business magazine. As publisher, Lowin will lead global cross platform sales efforts for Red Herring. Lowin will report directly to Schneider and will be based in New York City. Lowin joins Red Herring Communications from Fast Company, where he served as publisher.

· Latina Media Ventures, LLC announced that Alvaro Saralegui will join the company's Board of Directors. Mr. Saralegui, 45, is a media veteran who has held senior positions at Sports Illustrated and People before becoming Chief Executive Officer of an Internet media venture. Latina also announced that Roy Levenson, 43, also a Time Inc. veteran and most recently an executive of WorkingWomanNetwork, is joining the company in the newly created position of Chief Operating and Financial Officer. Christy Haubegger, who has been the company's Chief Executive Officer and Publisher, will assume the role of Founder, remain on the Company's Board and continue her focus on strategic initiatives, advertising and brand development. The company also announced it will begin a search for a new chief executive officer and publisher in the coming months. Latina Media Ventures is the parent company of Latina magazine, a bilingual lifestyle publication for Hispanic women in the United States.

· Prodigy Communications Corporation, an Internet service provider (ISP), has named Healthology, Inc., an online health content producer and distributor of streaming video webcasts, to deliver interactive health information and resources on Prodigy's enhanced Health Channel. Through the new Health Channel, Prodigy users will be able to access Healthology's physician-written and produced medical, surgical, and health- related content through streaming video webcasts and text articles. Healthology, Inc. has also partnered with iWon, a high-trafficked web portal, to become a content provider for the portal's health channel.

· The parent company of Arrangeonline.com, publisher of the National Obituary Archive (NOA), announced it has closed $7.5 million in new financing. The parent company, Final Arrangements, LLC of Houston, said the funds will be used to redeem all outstanding ``Class B'' units of the company and to fund ongoing operations of the year-old venture's online subsidiary. Nadine Smith, President of Final Arrangements, said the new funding was raised primarily from Aegis Insurance Holding Co., L.P., a previous investor in the privately held company.

· Techstreet, an online technical information store for engineers, scientists, and corporate librarians, has announced the offering of two new information collections: 20,000 in-depth market research reports and 4,400 commercial materials specifications. The market research covers over 2,000 categories including energy, food and beverage, health care and manufacturing. Materials data covers metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites. The new additions compliment Techstreet's existing collections of industry standards and specifications, technical books, professional training, and engineering software. The new products are available through Techstreet alliances with ICON Group International, a publisher of global market research and business intelligence, and ASM International, publisher of Alloy Digest.

· The Tablet, an international Catholic weekly founded in 1840 and based in London, UK, has launched a new website which includes an online bookshop and a section in Spanish. The Tablet's original website first appeared in September 1996. The new website offers a crisp design, more accessibility to articles and an international feel.

· TMP Worldwide Inc., a recruiter and operator of career portal Monster.com, announced that on June 20th, it closed the acquisition of the assets of CollegeLink.com Incorporated. CollegeLink.com, based in Middletown, Rhode Island and Cincinnati, Ohio, is an online destination for college-bound students and their families for guidance and information on the college admission process, including online college applications and submissions of applications for financial aid and scholarships.

· DIC Entertainment, Corp. has announced the appointment of Brad Brooks as President of DIC Entertainment, Corp., according to Andy Heyward, Chairman and CEO. Brooks joined DIC in February 2000 to facilitate the management-led buyout of DIC from The Walt Disney Company. Brooks played a central role in raising the necessary acquisition capital from Chase Manhattan Bank and DIC's equity partner Bain Capital, as well as negotiating the terms under which DIC parted ways from Disney. Subsequent to the buyout, Brooks has played an increasingly larger role in restructuring DIC's operations to position the Company for growth. Brooks' responsibilities have included hiring several key management personnel, the establishment of internal systems and procedures, and the assessment of potential acquisition targets.

· Peter Schneider will step down from his position as chairman of The Walt Disney Studios to start an independent Broadway theater production and investment company partially funded by The Walt Disney Company, it was announced by Michael D. Eisner, chairman and CEO, and Robert A. Iger, president and COO, of The Walt Disney Company. Richard Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group; Thomas Schumacher, president of Walt Disney Animation, Walt Disney Television Animation and Buena Vista Theatrical Group; and Nina Jacobson, president of the Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group, will continue in their current positions.

Cook will continue to have worldwide responsibility for all marketing and distribution in all platforms for the feature film and home video products of The Walt Disney Studios. Schumacher will continue to be responsible for all feature and television animation and video premieres for the studios plus the production, financing, marketing and distribution of Disney's Broadway theatrical businesses. Jacobson will continue to lead the development and production of Disney and Touchstone live action films.
