R.R. Bowker, a publisher of bibliographic information, and Alibris, a supplier of hard-to-find books, have entered into an alliance that will allow librarians and consumers to search for hard-to-find books directly through Bowker's booksinprint.com service. Under the agreement, booksinprint.com, a subscription search tool for the book-buying community, will offer hard-to-find books from Alibris. By performing a title, author, or ISBN search on booksinprint.com, customers will have integrated access to hard-to-find books from Alibris, in addition to a database of four million in-print and audio books, as well as videos.

``Booksinprint.com is already the best place to find comprehensive and unbiased information about books, audio and video recordings worldwide,'' said Michael Cairns, vice president of business development for New Providence-based R.R. Bowker. ``By linking booksinprint.com with an expansive selection from Alibris, librarians and traditional offline book retailers will now be able to easily locate an out-of-print history classic, fill back orders of out-of-stock indefinitely titles, or find replacement copies for rare titles.''

``Linking Bowker's authoritative website, booksinprint.com with millions of books from Alibris gives customers of booksinprint.com an incredible tool for purchasing out-of-print, out-of-stock-indefinitely, and rare books,'' said Martin Manley, president and CEO of Emeryville, Calif.-based Alibris. ``This agreement combines an excellent search tool for in-print books with an expansive out-of-print inventory to create one powerful and convenient Web-based service.''

Founded in 1872, R.R. Bowker (a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.) is a provider of bibliographic information, and is also the official agency for assigning ISBNs in the United States. The company's flagship product, Books In Print, is available on the Internet at booksinprint.com, on CD-ROM and in hardbound print format. Alibris is a global supplier of hard-to-find books, providing bookstores, online booksellers, distributors, libraries, and consumers with out-of-print, used, foreign-language, and collectible materials.
