SGMA To Launch Sports Industry Trade Magazine

Posted on June 28, 2001

A new industry trade magazine is ready to work for you -- The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) is launching Sports Edge, which its bills as "The Industry's Guide to the Business of Sports, Products and Retailing". The new sports industry trade magazine is scheduled to debut this October. In addition to showcasing the latest in product innovations, the magazine will also have access to SGMA's data and demographics.

``This trade publication -- scheduled to debut in October -- will become a key industry resource by providing readers with the most complete and comprehensive editorial and authentic perspectives on a breadth of industry issues,'' said SGMA President John Riddle. ``The magazine will provide insightful and practical solutions and straightforward reporting on the many issues facing today's sports industry, as well as up close and personal profiles of the leaders driving the industry's diverse market segments.''

Tina D'Aversa-Williams and Michael J. Pallerino -- the former publisher and editor of Sports Trend and Sporting Goods Dealer magazines, will spearhead the Sports Edge team. The publishing tandem recently led the merger of Sports Trend and SGB magazines, which was relaunched as Sporting Goods Business earlier this year.

D'Aversa-Williams will serve as publisher of Sports Edge. A 16-year veteran of magazine publishing, she is a member of the Magazine Association of Georgia's Hall of Fame and the American Business Media Research Committee. She holds Masters Degrees in market research and business.

Pallerino, who will be editor of Sports Edge, is also a 16-year publishing veteran who has won numerous awards, including the Jesse H. Neal Editorial Achievement Award, recognized as the Pulitzer Prize for business-to-business magazines. A long-time industry veteran, he has been quoted in USA Today, BusinessWeek, and the Wall Street Journal, among others.
