WebSphere Developer's Journal preview will ship with Java Developer's Journal's July issue and premier in September. WebLogic Developer's Journal will preview with JDJ's August issue and premier in October. Earlier this month, SYS-CON shipped the preview issue of another new title, the Web Services Journal to 250,000 readers. The Web Services Journal preview is currently on newsstands worldwide and its premier issue will be unveiled at the Web Services Edge 2001 International Web Services Conference & Expo/East on September 23, 2001. · Hearst Magazines President Cathleen P. Black announced that Redbook Editor-in-Chief Lesley Jane Seymour, 44, has been named editor-in-chief of the U.S. edition of Marie Claire. The announcement is effective immediately. Seymour succeeds Glenda Bailey, who last month was named editor-in-chief at Harper's Bazaar, another Hearst publication. A successor for Seymour will be named at a later date. Prior to joining Hearst, Seymour was editor-in-chief of YM from March 1997 to November 1998. Previously, she was beauty director at Glamour from 1993-1997 and worked at Vogue from 1982 to 1992 in various capacities, including senior editor of books, fashion, and features, as well as editor of Vogue's ``Upfront'' section (which she originated). She began her journalism career at Women's Wear Daily. In addition to her magazine experience, Seymour is the author of two books, On the Edge: 100 Years of Vogue (Random House, 1992) and I Wish My Parents Understood (Freudlich/Penguin, 1985). · Rodale Inc., a publisher of information on healthy, active lifestyles, announced that Aimee Geller has been named executive director of publicity for Men's Health magazine. Dave Zinczenko, editor-in-chief of Men's Health, made the announcement. Geller, a former vice president of public relations for Planet Hollywood International, began her assignment on June 25. She will report to Zinczenko and Camille Johnston, Rodale's vice president of corporate communications, and will be based in Rodale's New York office. In her new role, Geller will oversee communications and events for Men's Health and MH-18, Men's Health's new spin-off magazine for teenage guys. In addition, she will help promote Rodale's Sports Group titles, which include Runner's World, Backpacker, Bicycling, Mountain Bike, and Rodale's Scuba Diving magazines. Prior to joining Rodale, Geller served as vice president of New York public relations for Planet Hollywood International for 5-1/2 years. · MediaBrains, a provider of integrated media solutions, announced a strategic relationship with Advanstar Communications. Under the agreement MediaBrains will build up to 15 MediaBrains Buyer's Guides for Advanstar this year. Several of these Buyer's Guides are already live on Advanstar websites. MediaBrains Buyer's Guides enable Advanstar to develop branded directories that connect buyers and sellers online. · Morningstar, Inc., a provider of investment information and analytical tools, announced that its European subsidiary has launched free Web-based information services in Germany and Spain. German investors now have access to information on 3,500 mutual funds at morningstarfonds.de, and Spanish investors have access to information on more than 3,000 mutual funds at morningstar.es. · Xlibris Corporation, an epublishing services provider, announced that Learning to Fall by Philip E. Simmons, will be published by the Bantam Dell Publishing Group in January 2002. Peter Pauper Press will be releasing a guided journal thereafter, based upon excerpts from Simmons' book. Simmons, was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease at age 35. · PR Watch, a nonprofit quarterly publication that since 1993 has investigated the public relations industry, has launched a free website feature called Spin of the Day to report on PR spin as it happens. Spin of the Day offers brief news summaries with links to further information analyzing the spin and manipulation behind news stories and controversial issues. · Integrity Incorporated announced the formation of a new subsidiary that will develop and publish Christian book titles. The Company also announced that Byron D. Williamson would be President and CEO of the new subsidiary, Integrity Publishers, Inc. Integrity Publishers, Inc. will be headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Byron D. Williamson, a respected executive in the Christian publishing industry, will serve as President and CEO of the book-publishing subsidiary and its Nashville-based management organization. For more than two decades (1977-1998), Mr. Williamson served in senior executive positions with Thomas Nelson, Inc., or companies that were acquired by Thomas Nelson, Inc., one of the largest publishers of English language Bibles and Christian books. · WorldPages.com, Inc., a provider of print and online search directories, announced that the merger between WorldPages.com, Inc. and a subsidiary of TransWestern Publishing Company LLC has been completed. · Martha K. Levin, Executive Vice President and Publisher of The Free Press, announced that The Free Press will publish a yet to be titled first book on dealmaking by Leo Hindery, Jr., the former CEO of TCI (Tele-Communications, Inc.) responsible for negotiating the $54 billion sale of TCI to AT&T in 1998. Executive Editor Bill Rosen acquired North American, first serial and audio rights from Hindery's literary agent Christy Fletcher of Carlisle & Company. Coauthored by three-time Pulitzer Prize-nominated Wall Street Journal reporter, Leslie Cauley, the book is scheduled to be published in Fall 2002. The Free Press is an imprint of Simon & Schuster, the publishing operation of Viacom Inc. · AOL Time Warner Inc. announced the formation of the AOL Time Warner Opportunity Investment Fund, a new initiative that will invest approximately $100 million over a three-year period in companies owned or managed by minorities and women. The Fund will invest in businesses that have significant diversity in their senior management, that target under-served markets, and whose operations have a strategic fit with AOL Time Warner's businesses. AOL Time Warner also announced the appointment of Rachel S. Lam as vice president of the Company's AOL Time Warner Investments unit and managing director of the AOL Time Warner Opportunity Investment Fund. · USA Today, a national daily newspaper, has launched an affiliate marketing program through Commission Junction, an affiliate marketing service provider. USA Today will use Commission Junction's technology and services to help increase subscriptions using pay-for-performance advertising. USA Today banner ads and text links will be offered to the Commission Junction network of affiliate websites. Commission Junction will manage all relationships, monitor and report the affiliate marketing program performance and handle payment of commissions for USA Today. · McGraw-Hill Professional, a unit of McGraw-Hill Education, has purchased from RADCOM Ltd. the rights to publish A World of Protocols, a guide to data and telecommunications protocols. · The twenty-five year old accelerated learning organization, the International Alliance for Learning has launched an e-newsletter on its website. The e-newsletter reports on cutting edge research in the field of accelerated learning. Interviews, book reports and AL news from around the world are reported in this new bimonthly e-newsletter. · Legalities.com says it has carved out a profitable niche on the Internet specializing in self-help law books. The site's founder, Dennis Kahane, 53, a business lawyer, says he decided to start legalities.com because "a middle class person with a middle class legal problem can't afford a lawyer anymore. Kahane's San Ramon law office does double duty as a book warehouse with racks of bookcases everywhere. Boxes of books arrive from publishers daily, and packages are sent out via UPS and Priority Mail to customers all over the country. · Legally Blonde, a comedic novel by first time author Amanda Brown and inspiration for the eagerly awaited MGM feature film of the same name, is now available in ebook format through 1stBooks Library. Legally Blonde will also be available at retail in paperback beginning July 6. The movie based on the book stars Reese Witherspoon and Luke Wilson and is scheduled to premiere in theaters nationwide on July 13. Ms. Brown originally acquired literary representation for the novel in 1998 and film rights were bought by MGM. Legally Blonde chronicles the comic misadventures of Elle Woods, a child of privilege from Beverly Hills. Attending the University of Southern California as a sociological jewelry design major, Elle's world is thrown into disarray when she is dumped by her college sweetheart, Warner Huntington III. After he claims to need a woman with more substance, Elle hatches a plan to follow her ex-boyfriend to Stanford Law School, in order to prove herself to Warner and win him back.
