Posted on July 18, 2001

Like many publishing and media companies, news publisher Knight Ridder has decided to rename its Internet division. KnightRidder.com announced it is changing its name to Knight Ridder Digital to more accurately identify its services. The new name reflects the company's focus on online publishing and Internet advertising, and initiatives in interactive information, technology infrastructure development, wireless applications and content syndication deployment. In coming months, the company plans to introduce new tools and platforms that more efficiently deliver content, services and advertising across media networks.

``As we grow and evolve, our identity must keep pace,'' explained Dan Finnigan, Knight Ridder Digital president. ``Our new name better reflects our growth and new lines of business. Not only are we committed to providing the most in-depth local information on the Web through Real Cities, we are leading the way in defining the role technology should play in local content services for consumers and advertisers.''

Knight Ridder Digital also announced the launch of a new corporate website, knightridderdigital.com and its move to a new location in downtown San Jose. Knight Ridder Digital develops and manages the Internet properties of Knight Ridder, a leading newspaper publisher. Knight Ridder Digital is a separate Internet subsidiary and is the founder and operator of Real Cities, a network of city and regional websites.
