iPublish.com Unveils New Authors Discovered Online

Posted on August 8, 2001

iPublish.com, an online publishing website, has unveiled the first three books discovered through iWrite, its online writing community. The new novels include Harmless Error by Kate Donovan, a contemporary romance; Travels by Jerry Davis, a medical thriller; and Frank by Fred Petrovsky, a science fiction novel.

Shortly after its launch in late April, iPublish.com's contract was blasted by the Authors Guild in a press release. Despite the criticism iPublish still received over a thousand submissions to iWrite. Beginning with these three titles, iPublish.com plans to release a list of newly discovered authors each month. iPublish.com will publish the novels this October in ebook format and print on demand, with the possibility of a full-scale print distribution sometime in 2002.

"We have been absolutely thrilled with both the quality and quantity of the submissions we have received, and our first list perfectly exemplifies the range of exciting talent we're finding at iPublish.com," said Claire Zion, editorial director of iPublish.com. "The overwhelming response from writers also demonstrates the tremendous need for a publishing model like iPublish.com. Two of our first novels are from talented first-time novelists who just couldn't make the connections to get their work looked at by print editors. Our third novel is by an author who has enjoyed print publication for her previous works, but she found her creativity frustrated."

The novels came to the attention of iPublish.com's editors thanks to positive reviews the titles received from members of the iWrite community. Under iWrite's system, members must first review excerpts by three other writers before they can submit their own work for publishing consideration.

According to general manager Greg Voynow, iPublish.com's marketing efforts begin with a promotion that will invite people to read excerpts of each novel, prior to the books being available for purchase, and vote for their favorite. A grand prizewinner will receive $500 worth of Time Warner books. The new promotion will also be featured on AOL, including the Welcome Screen and within appropriate channels, including the Entertainment channel.
