Friday, August 17, 2001 Media Cynic | Forum | Advertising | Classifieds | Jobs Former Publisher Picks Up Working Mother Magazine Working Mother, with its circulation of 925,000, will continue without interruption, with Evans as publisher. Working Woman will go on hiatus following publication of the 25th anniversary issue in September, with plans for a re-launch next year. MediaWeek reported that the entire staff of Working Woman magazine was cut and some of the Working Mother employees were also let go. The company will move in September to new offices in White Plains, N.Y. Evans is a veteran of Working Mother, where she served on the launch issue and then as ad director and publisher from 1980-1989. She states that, ``although this circumstance is unfortunate for Working Woman Network, it has provided the opportunity for me to work again with a property that I love so much.'' MacDonald Communications acquired Working Mother and Working Woman in 1996, and in April, 2000, launched the ecommerce-centered Working Woman Network. Former chair and CEO Jay MacDonald is expected to assist in the transition. ``I'm proud to be the first woman owner of these magazines,'' says Evans. ``There are over 60 million working women in this country and over 25 million are mothers, and this company is there to serve their needs, tell their story, and connect them to each other so their lives can be as rich and powerful as possible.''
