Fawcette Technical Publications Launches .NET Magazine

Posted on September 7, 2001

.NET Magazine, a new monthly publication for IT professionals, focuses on the strategic and technical issues involved with implementing Microsoft's .NET platform. The monthly publication will follow a special launch issue in October 2001 that is being sent to 350,000 IT buyers chosen from customer lists of Microsoft and Fawcette Technical Publications.

``The strong momentum behind the .NET platform and the success with the special issue inspired us to launch .NET Magazine as a monthly publication beginning with the January 2002 issue,'' says publisher Lynne Matthes. ``There is a revolution going on again in the computer industry. The way people and businesses are using the Web demands a new computing model, one that provides access across the Internet to information from any server to any client device. .NET is the platform that allows this to happen.''

``.NET Magazine is about a new strategic platform for distributed applications,''.NET Magazine editor-in-chief Jim Minatel states. ``IT managers need strategic and technical information to implement new .NET architecture, applications, and infrastructure. .NET involves all these levels. Our editorial mission is to provide an independent source of information to decision makers to help them make key decisions on .NET.''

Fawcette Technical Publication's monthly publication, Exchange & Outlook magazine will become a part of the new .NET Magazine. .NET Magazine will run an Exchange editorial section that includes a special advertising section and rates for Exchange advertisers.

``Our experience with Exchange & Outlook magazine made it clear that Exchange is now a mission-critical corporate information system. Over 50 percent of all business correspondence is now conducted through e-mail. Obviously Exchange is a key piece of Microsoft's .NET strategy. Merging the circulation and the editorial from Exchange & Outlook magazine into .NET Magazine allows us to expand our readership and advertising base and still give Exchange the coverage it requires,'' group publisher Jeff Hadfield said.

The monthly publication begins with the January 2002 issue with a rate base of 120,000. A companion website offers articles, original content, case studies, product guide listings and resources. The management team for .NET Magazine includes: Jeff Hadfield - Group Publisher, Microsoft Magazine Group; Lynne Matthes - Publisher of .NET Magazine; Jim Minatel - Editor-in-chief of .NET Magazine; and Kent Wu - Advertising Director of .NET Magazine.
