Mademoiselle Ceases Publication

Mademoiselle, a monthly women's magazine, will suspend publication with its November issue, it was announced by Steven T. Florio, President and C.E.O. of Conde Nast Publications, Inc. Conde Nast blamed the suspension on poor economic conditions.

``This was a difficult decision,'' Mr. Florio said. ``Unfortunately, current economic conditions have produced a situation where, despite the excellent efforts of Mandi Norwood, Lori Burgess, and Mademoiselle's editorial and business staffs, the magazine is no longer viable.''

Mademoiselle was first published in 1935 and was acquired by Conde Nast Publications in 1959. Subscribers to Mademoiselle will receive Glamour magazine, beginning with the January, 2002 issue. Glamour's advertising rate base will increase from 2.1 million to 2.2 million, also beginning with the January issue.
