· Ziff Davis Media Game Group, a publisher of gaming magazines, announced two new editorial appointments. John Davison was named overall editorial director of the Game Group, and Simon Cox, launch editor and creative director. In addition to his promotion to editorial director, John Davison will continue to serve as editor-in-chief of the Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine. Simon Cox will be responsible for overseeing the content for special issues such as Pocket Games, and the quarterly GameBoy publication, development of new franchises such as Xbox Nation, and will be on the launch team for new projects such as Game Now. Simon Cox joins Ziff Davis Media Game Group from Imagine Media, where he was editor-in-chief of the Official DreamCast Magazine and the launch editor of Revolution.

· InfoWorld, a weekly enterprise technology magazine, announced the appointment of Russell Pavlicek as its new Open Source columnist. Prior to joining InfoWorld, Pavlicek was the Linux Evangelist for Professional Services at Compaq Computer Corporation. He is a frequent speaker at industry events and a leading advocate with a strong following from the Linux community. Pavlicek is also the author of Embracing Insanity: Open Source Software Development published by SAMS Publishing.

· Fannie Mae, a provider of financing for home mortgages, announced that, subject to board approval, Chuck Greener will become the company's senior vice president - Communications. Chuck will join Fannie Mae in early November. As Senior Vice President, Greener, 47, will be responsible for Fannie Mae's strategic communications including internal and external functions, advertising, media relations, corporate events, internet and intranet websites, and publications.

· AOL Time Warner Inc. has announced the appointment of Kate Brown as the company's vice president of finance and acquisitions. Ms. Brown, 36, joins AOL Time Warner from Salomon Smith Barney, where she was a managing director in mergers and acquisitions. Reporting to AOL Time Warner's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer J. Michael Kelly, Ms. Brown will be responsible for initiating, transacting and screening mergers and acquisitions; leading the development of the company's strategic plan; and monitoring and analyzing the company's competitive position. AOL Time Warner Inc. also announced the appointment of Michele James as the company's chief talent scout. Ms. James, previously chief talent scout for the company's America Online, Inc. unit, serves in her new position as the leader of talent acquisition across all AOL Time Warner businesses. Ms. James, 39, reports to Patricia Fili-Krushel, executive vice president, administration at AOL Time Warner.

· Harcourt Inc., an Orlando, FL based K-12 education business, announced that Richard Blake has joined the company as Vice President, Communications and Government Relations. Mr. Blake will assume responsibility for all external communications, media relations, and government affairs for the Harcourt Education group. He will report to Harcourt Education Chief Executive Officer Tony Lucki. Blake, a former publishing industry attorney, headed the School Division of the Association of American Publishers from 1995 to 1999. Most recently, he served as Vice President, Marketing for K-12 publisher Everyday Learning Corporation.

· Brock Yates, Editor-at-Large of Car and Driver magazine, has joined Tech Central Station as a regular contributor with a new column, ``Road Warrior.'' Yates' focus will be on the automobile: the freedom it affords, the technology it provides and the legislative and regulatory battles that swirl around it. Tech Central Station is an online think tank focused on the intersection of technology, investing and public policy.

Digital Publishing

· Infotrieve, an online research database, has announced content agreements with the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers); OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development); American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics; American Society of Hematology; CRC Press; Turpion Ltd.; and Penn State University Press.

Content Deals

· The Principal Financial Group and Intuit Inc. have announced an agreement to jointly market and develop QuickBooks-branded retirement solutions for businesses. Under the agreement, Intuit will co-brand and market the new service to small and mid-sized businesses, including its nearly three million existing QuickBooks customers.

· Alloy, Inc., a media company targeting teenagers, announced that it has acquired Dan's Competition, Inc., a direct marketer to teenage boys specializing in BMX biking equipment and related apparel. Under the terms of the agreement, Alloy has issued approximately 2.1 million shares of its common stock and paid $11.0 million in cash to complete the acquisition. Dan's sells a line of BMX-style bicycles, parts, safety equipment, apparel and accessories from brands including Huffy, Hoffman and Free Agent bikes and Etnies, Split and DC apparel and footwear.

· eDiets.com, Inc. and DietSmart, Inc., two online diet centers, announced they have entered into an agreement to merge organizations in a combined cash and stock transaction. DietSmart shareholders will receive 2 million shares of eDiets common stock and $2.5 million, payable in installments. The closing of the transaction is subject to DietSmart shareholder approval.

· Village Voice Media, whose properties include the alternative newsweeklies, The Village Voice and LA Weekly, announced a partnership with Match.com, an online dating service.

· The Hollywood Reporter and PricewaterhouseCoopers' Entertainment & Media Practice announced the launch of an online editorial collaboration. A new section, called PricewaterhouseCoopers' Media Analyst Corner, offers HollywoodReporter.com users industry data, forecasts and analysis from PricewaterhouseCoopers, along with key articles from select trade publications.

Launches and Redesigns

· International Data Group (IDG), an IT media company, and its Mexican publishing partner, Ediworld S. A. de C.V., announced the debut of InfoWorld Mexico. Targeting the country's senior-level IT professionals, InfoWorld Mexico will launch this week with an expected controlled circulation of 10,000. InfoWorld Mexico's editorial mission reflects its U.S. sister publication's focus on delivering in-depth analysis of enterprise technology and strategies. Under the leadership of editor and publisher Ricardo Castro Romo, InfoWorld Mexico's editorial team is comprised of Claudia Mercado and Patricia Morales.

· Alloy, Inc., a media company targeting teenagers, announced the launch of the AlloY-Access reports. The Style File: an AlloY-Access Report (the ``Style File''), the first report of the AlloY-Access series to launch, will provide qualitative data reporting on teen girls' fashion and buying habits and trends of teen buyers. The AlloY-Access Reports will soon expand to include additional studies on other relevant topics including the tracking of teen brands, marketing and promotions that appeal to Gen Y and reports on effective campaigns.

· Ziff Davis Custom Media, the custom and contract media solutions unit of Ziff Davis Media Inc., announced, in conjunction with CDW Government, the launch of State Tech, a 52-page quarterly custom magazine that will debut in October with distribution to 100,000 qualified senior-level IT professionals at state and local government agencies. CDWG, a wholly-owned subsidiary company of CDW Computer Centers, Inc., is a provider of brand name technology products and services to government agencies and educational institutions nationwide.

· The Daily Deal, an international newspaper for corporate and financial dealmakers, has launched its newest weekly section, consolidating technology coverage, columns and statistics into Tech Wednesday. Tech Wednesday joins Merger Monday and Bankruptcy Thursday as the third weekly section to appear in The Daily Deal. By the end of 2001, The Daily Deal will roll out two more weekly sections: Corporate Dealmaker Tuesday and Venture Capital/Private Equity Friday.

Miscellaneous

· Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia announced that Martha Stewart Living magazine's rate base will increase by 5.6% to 2,270,000 from the current 2,150,000, effective with the January 2002 issue. The magazine provides how-to information focusing on MSO's eight core content areas: Home, Cooking & Entertaining, Gardening, Crafts, Holidays, Keeping, Weddings and Baby & Kids.

· CMP Media's Network Computing Magazine has established The Foundation for Future Technology Leaders (FFTL), a collaborative effort to provide information technology educational scholarships and training programs to high school students. Network Computing will provide seed and ongoing funding to the newly formed non-profit entity, and is currently soliciting technology leaders for partnering contributions.
