Aviation Week, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies, has launched a multimedia initiative focused on homeland security. Aviation Week's Homeland Security & Defense (HSD) effort is intended to provide news, information and intelligence for industries such as aerospace, defense and security, government agencies at every level, related non-profit groups, and others involved in the field. The first phase of the initiative is a new website, which was launched on the group's web portal, AviationNow.com, on Oct. 5. HSD online content includes news, analysis, images, graphics and other resources, and is available free online.

In Washington, DC, on November 27, 2001, Aviation Week will debut a new conference event on homeland security and defense. The multimedia initiative includes a new print and electronic weekly intelligence report on homeland defense and security that is set to launch soon and related products and services such as books on aviation security, training courses, conferences and webcasts.

The weekly publication's coverage will include relevant news and intelligence on programs, policies, events and products of interest to both industry and government. Coverage will include areas such as: counterterrorism, force protection for deployed military and naval units, the new White House Office of Homeland Security, state and local law enforcement and investigative agencies, emergency response, urban search and rescue, international intelligence, law enforcement and security agencies, corporate and industrial security, aviation security systems, robots, special vehicles and other ground equipment, communications equipment and non-lethal weapons with homeland security applications.
