Friday, October 12, 2001 Media Cynic | Forum | Advertising | Classifieds | Jobs Lynne Cheney to Publish Children's Book About America An alphabet book intended for elementary school children and their families, America: A Patriotic Primer will celebrate and define the ideas and ideals that define the United States and will be illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser. Robert B. Barnett represented the agreement for Mrs. Cheney, and Faith Hamlin of Sanford J. Greenburger Associates is the agent for Robin Preiss Glasser. ``Robin and I started working on this book before the tragic events of September 11,'' said Mrs. Cheney. ``For both of us, it is now more important than ever that our children and grandchildren know the foundation of America's freedom and understand why we hold this nation dear.'' Lynne V. Cheney, wife of Vice President Richard B. Cheney, has long been an advocate for improving education in America. She is currently a Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), where she is focusing on how we can best teach reading and math to our children and provide them with the historical knowledge that will give them perspective on their lives. Prior to her tenure at AEI, Mrs. Cheney served as Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities from 1986 to 1993. Mrs. Cheney is the author of Telling the Truth, a book on the impact of cultural trends on society and co-author with her husband of Kings of the Hill, a profile of nine of the most powerful leaders of the House of Representatives. She has also written novels, newspaper columns, and served as an editor of Washingtonian magazine. From 1996 to 1998, she was a Co-host of Crossfire Sunday. Mrs. Cheney is the mother of two grown daughters, and has three young grandchildren. Robin Preiss Glasser is the illustrator of Judith Viorst's Super-Completely and Totally the Messiest, as well as the You Can't Take a Balloon Into the Metropolitan Museum, and its two sequels, on which she collaborates with her sister, Jacqueline Preiss Weitzman.
