Universal Studios Launches the Jurassic Park Institute

Universal Studios has announced the creation of the Jurassic Park Institute (JPI) -- an educational program and resource for dinosaur research, learning and entertainment. Universal says JPI marks the next step in the evolution of Jurassic Park, its successful movie franchise based on the novel by Michael Crichton. JPI will include a website, a dinosaur-themed in-school program, traveling dinosaur-themed museum exhibits and an online kids club in partnership with education.com.

``JPI launches the Jurassic Park brand into exciting new territory, extending its reach and impact well beyond the motion picture screen,'' says Marc Shmuger, vice chairman, Universal Pictures. ``Combining the best qualities of entertainment and education, JPI will benefit kids, teachers, parents and scientists around the world.''

Working in partnership with leading dinosaur paleontologists such as Dr. Philip Currie, Dr. Jack Horner, Dr. Jim Kirkland, and Dr. Bob Bakker, JPI will always be fact-based and scientifically accurate. The first phase of the Institute's development begins with the launch of jpinstitute.com, a comprehensive dinosaur destination. It features news, information, games, activities, and guides for dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages. Highlights include the latest dinosaur news, information about recent discoveries, editorials from leading paleontologists, dinosaur-themed games, a Dinopedia, and a guide to dinosaur exhibits.

``The JPI website is the most extensive dinosaur site that I've ever seen. It offers everything from a complete dinosaur encyclopedia to the latest news in dino research -- it is like having the world's top paleontologists at your fingertips,'' states Dr. Philip Currie, curator of dinosaurs, Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology and chairman of the Jurassic Foundation. ``It is a great way to turn science into a fun learning experience.''

Random House Children's Books is supporting Jurassic Park Institute with the publication of four books, including the Jurassic Park Institute: Dinosaur Field Guide. Its companion Jurassic Park Institute: Dinosaur Sticker Book is also available. Two additional titles, a chapter book and an interactive sticker book, are scheduled for release this month.
