Crain Ceases Publication of Automotive News International

Posted on October 19, 2001

Crain Communications, publisher of the industry trade journal Automotive News, ceased publication of its monthly publication, Automotive News International, effective with the October issue. Crain Communications bought Automotive News International (then called Automotive International) from Leading Edge Publishing based in the United Kingdom in October 1998.

``The publication was successful with our readers and was distributed to a phenomenal list of top automotive executives around the globe,'' said Keith Crain, chairman of Crain Communications and publisher of Automotive News International. ``The market was not ready to advertise to a global readership. Advertisers are targeting regional audiences such as North America or Europe and we already have those continents covered with Automotive News and Automotive News Europe.''

No associated layoffs came as a result of the announcement. Employees who worked on the publication will now redirect their efforts toward Automotive News and Automotive News Europe. Automotive News will continue to have an international home page as part of its group website.

Headquartered in Detroit, Crain Communications Inc. publishes over 30 consumer, business and trade publications including Advertising Age, BtoB, Business Insurance, Modern Healthcare, and business weeklies in Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and New York. The Crain Automotive Group includes four worldwide publications with more than 50 reporters and editors and bureau offices in New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Nashville, London, Munich and Tokyo.
