Friday, October 26, 2001 Media Cynic | Forum | Advertising | Classifieds | Jobs Reedy River Press Debuts PC Teach It Magazine According to Linda Dennis, Reedy River Press editor-in-chief, PC Teach It was born in response to hundreds of inquiries received from teachers and readers of PC Create It, a sister publication and website for photo and computer crafting. "We continuously received e-mails from teachers asking if they could use some of the projects found in PC Create It in their classrooms," said Dennis. "We then spent months researching the educational market, and held numerous meetings with the U.S. Department of Education, The Technology Division, the International Society of Technology Education (ISTE), major software companies and teacher focus groups around the U.S. It became very clear that there was a real need for easy to understand instructions that would help integrate technology into schools, and since technology changes so quickly, the use of a 'normal textbook' was not acceptable." PC Teach It follows the academic calendar and correlates to the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) developed by ISTE, and other performance indicators. A numbering system has been applied to the NETS on pcteachit.com, and the instructions in each lesson plan indicate which key standards pertain to that particular project. The website also includes links to templates and other downloads needed to complete the projects in the print magazine.
