Mr. Fazio will oversee all financial operations for both Cygnus and its parent company CommerceConnect Media. He fills the vacancy created by Craig Schroeder. Mr. Fazio will report directly to Paul Mackler and will relocate to CommerceConnect Media's corporate headquarters in Westport, Connecticut on November 12th. · TheScientificWorldJournal, a new multidisciplinary and integrated online publication for the life sciences and environmental sciences, announced it has reached agreements with more than 350 scientists to serve as Principal Editors, Associate Editors, and Editorial Board Members. This editorial network guides the direction of TheScientificWorldJournal and ensures all submitted scientific work undergoes rigorous peer review. · MacroMed Inc. announced the appointment of Roger G. Harrison, Ph.D., to its board of directors. Digital Publishing · Maps.com is offering print on-demand maps from its fifty thousand digital map files to customers. Consumers can select maps from any U.S. State, country, continent or a variety of historical/thematic maps in large format print sizes, also up to 6' x 8'. Any on demand wall map is powered with an Internet component, iPowermaps. The Maps.com iPowermaps concept allows purchasers of a printed map product to access supplemental Internet content relative to the map title using a special URL, listed on the map. Content Deals · Martindale-Hubbell, publisher a directory for the legal profession, and law.com, a provider of online legal news, have announced a strategic alliance. Under the terms of the agreement, the Martindale-Hubbell Lawyer Locator has become the exclusive lawyer and law firm directory on law.com. The Lawyer Locator search form is strategically placed on a number of pages throughout law.com, including the Homepage, Practice Centers, In-House Counsel section and all individual state sites. In addition, a link has been added on the law.com homepage navigation bar to take visitors directly to martindale.com. Launches and Redesigns · Penton Media announced the launch of Security Matters, a vertical conference and exhibition debuting at Internet World Spring 2002. To be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from April 22 - 26, 2002, the event will feature a 3-day conference program, along with an exhibitor showcase on the Internet World show floor. Penton Media has also launched a weekly Security Matters email newsletter, available as a free subscription through internetworld.com. · ExxonMobil Masterpiece Theatre Online has launched its companion website to William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, scheduled to air on PBS on October 8, 2001 (check local listings). · Am I a HACK or NOT?, is a new website where writers can put their work to the test. Hopeful authors submit writing samples and users of the site rate them on a 1-to-10 scale, with 1’s going to hopeless hacks and perfect 10’s reserved for the more eloquent wordsmiths. The site was inspired by the recent Web fad hotornot.com, which lets users see pictures of others and rate their hotness. Jason J. Jones, a professional Web developer and creator of Am I a HACK or NOT? admits, "hotornot.com was a guilty pleasure of mine. I loved the concept, and I decided to apply it to a whole different subject matter." · Author Robert Grudin, publisher Knowhere Press, and artist Grace Ku have founded White Wolf, LLC, as a means of establishing a collaborative, venture-based publishing model. Grudin has assigned the rights of The Most Amazing Thing, his second novel, to White Wolf in exchange for a majority ownership in the company. The Most Amazing Thing, Robert Grudin's sixth book, arrives in stores this December. His previous novel, Book, received a Pulitzer nomination from Random House and made the New York Times list of 100 Notable Books of the Year in 1992. · The Society for Women's Health Research announced that it will launch the Women's Health Research Syndicate to provide content to publications free of charge.
