Posted on October 31, 2001

Palm, Inc. announced the first ebook versions of CliffsNotes, published by Hungry Minds, Inc. An additional 70 CliffsNotes ebooks are scheduled for release in November. The CliffsNotes cover a wide spectrum of books from English literature to test preparation and Advanced Placement reviews. CliffsNotes eBooks join Palm Digital Media's list of more than 3,000 titles. The ebooks are available for reading with Palm Reader, an ebook reader application.

``Palm is building a thriving eBook business for consumers, mobile professionals, educators and students,'' said Jeff Strobel, director of Palm Digital Media. ``CliffsNotes have enjoyed immense popularity among students worldwide for more than 40 years, and Palm Reader is an ideal reading platform for learning and teaching, with features that include auto-scrolling, bookmarks, the ability to annotate, large fonts and several viewing options. We expect students and teachers to gravitate quickly to ebooks as more academic books and materials become available in this format.''

``Our philosophy is similar to Palm's -- to provide easy access to relevant information and make it easy for people to learn and explore,'' said Mike Violano, vice president of International Sales and Subsidiary Rights for Hungry Minds. ``As a company actively engaged in the elearning market, we believe that ebooks represent the wave of the future, and the education market will be quick to recognize the benefits. By making CliffsNotes available as ebooks, we can take advantage of the growing popularity of handheld computers on campuses around the world.''
