Schurenberg will continue to be based in New York and will oversee the What Works section of the magazine, among other duties. · The National Notary Association announced a reorganization of its editorial operations, including the appointment of Keith M. Jajko as editor and a redesign of its full-color national magazine. The 176,000-member association named Jajko as only the third editor in the association's 44-year history. Jajko will oversee its two bimonthly publications, The National Notary magazine and the Notary Bulletin newspaper, as well as other journals produced by the nonprofit educational association. · Entertainment Publications, a marketer coupon books, discounts and merchant promotions, announced the appointment of Yosi Heber to the newly created position of chief marketing officer. Heber will provide strategic leadership and marketing direction for all of the company's products. He will be based at the Entertainment's Troy, Mich. headquarters, and report to Alan Bittker, the company's president and chief executive officer. · Time Warner Inc. announced the appointment of Iris Knobloch as the company's senior vice president for international relations and strategic policy, Europe, effective November 1. Reporting to Robert M. Kimmitt, AOL Time Warner's executive vice president for global and strategic policy, Ms. Knobloch, 38, will be based in London and will serve as head of AOL Time Warner's European policy operation, overseeing AOL Time Warner policy offices and personnel in Brussels and other major European cities. Since 1999, Ms. Knobloch has been based in London as vice president, business and legal affairs of AOL Time Warner's Warner Home Video unit. · Borders Group, Inc. named Amy B. Lane to its board of directors as an additional member. Lane, 48, is currently an advisor to Merrill Lynch, having recently announced her intent to retire from the firm effective February 2002. Lane had, for five years, headed the Merrill Lynch retail group within its investment banking division in New York. · Photo Trade News (PTN), a business journal in the photo/imaging industry, announced the promotion of Mike McEnaney to Associate Publisher and Editorial Director. McEnaney will be responsible for the sales and marketing of PTN as well as the overall editorial direction of the publication. McEnaney has been with the company for the last 10 years, most recently serving as Editor-in-Chief of Photo Trade News. · Ian Johnston, a business-to-business publishing executive, has joined Paperloop as the company's new Chief Executive Officer. He replaces Tim Fazio who moves up to CEO of PL Holdings, Paperloop's parent company. In his new position, Johnston oversees all operations at the resource for the paper, forestry and converting industries. Prior to joining Paperloop, Johnston was Publisher Director of several magazines, newsletters, conferences and online portals at Wilmington Publishing in England. · AOL Time Warner Inc. announced senior executive changes at the corporate level and at America Online. The company said that it appointed Michael Kelly, its Chief Financial Officer, as the Chief Operating Officer of America Online. Succeeding Mr. Kelly as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at AOL Time Warner is Wayne Pace, Vice Chairman, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administration Officer of Turner Broadcasting Systems. · John McKeon, senior vice president of advertising of the Los Angeles Times, has been named senior vice president and general manager of Sun-Sentinel Company, Sun-Sentinel President and Publisher Bob Gremillion announced. Prior to joining the Los Angeles Times as senior vice president of advertising in 1998, McKeon was senior vice president of advertising and chief innovation officer at Newsday. · The New York Times announced that William M. Abrams has been appointed president of NYT Television, the Times's television production unit. Mr. Abrams will report to Thomas K. Carley, president, The New York Times News Services, and Michael Oreskes, assistant managing editor and director of electronic news, The New York Times, effective November 6. Christian Gwinn, who supervised NYT Television on an interim basis as managing director, will report to Mr. Abrams. · Hubert Boehle, president of Bauer Publishing, announced that Liz Nice has been named editor in chief of Twist magazine, a teen magazine that reaches 1.9 million girls between 12 and 17 years old. Previously, Nice worked at Bliss magazine, the second biggest title in the UK teen market, targeted to teens in the 13-18 age range. Ms. Nice replaces Richard Spencer, who will be working directly with Mr. Boehle on business development. Digital Publishing · Texterity, Inc., a provider of electronic publishing services, announced general availability of the Make Adobe eBook service, enabling creation of ebooks for the Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader. The new service enables publishers to create Adobe PDF-based eBooks with wide-ranging functionality, including the creation of sample chapter books with purchase links, bookmark integration, contents linking, multimedia, and interactivity. Content Deals · The Dialog Corporation, a Thomson business and a leading international provider of online-based information services, announced that it has enhanced its collection of full-text content available through its online information services with the addition of 10 Australian newspapers and periodicals published by John Fairfax Holdings Limited. Included in the Fairfax content are three other of the country's largest daily newspapers: The Sydney Morning Herald (Sydney, New South Wales); The Sun Herald (Sydney); and The Sunday Age, sister publication of The Age (Melbourne). Two regional newspapers -- The Newcastle Herald and The Illawarra Mercury (both from New South Wales) -- also are included in the Fairfax content. · Consumers Union, publisher of Consumer Reports magazine and ConsumerReports.org, and BabyCenter, L.L.C., publisher of BabyCenter.com, an online parenting resource, announced a content distribution agreement. Consumer Reports will be prominently featured throughout the BabyCenter.com website. Users who click on the Consumer Reports link will be taken to a co-branded webpage developed by both ``Consumer Reports'' and BabyCenter. For example, some of the free articles available offer information on product safety recalls, buying advice on baby carriers and baby walkers, and safe sleeping do's and don'ts. Under the terms of the agreement, ConsumerReports.org and BabyCenter.com will share revenue from all ConsumerReports.org subscriptions generated through the new relationship. · Extensis, Inc., a developer of creativity and productivity software for creative professionals, announced the sale of creativepro.com to Montana-based PrintingforLess.com (PFL). PFL has acquired the rights and assets related to the creativepro.com portal. Launched by Extensis, Inc. in August of 1999, creativepro.com serves as a vertical portal providing online content and resources for the print and Web publishing communities. Launches and Redesigns · Lawrence Ragan Communications, Inc., has launched the National Security Daily, a news service covering homeland defense. The National Security Daily is delivered electronically to its subscribers every weekday morning. National Security Daily presents news summaries and commentary culled from 5,000 media sources -- daily newspapers, news and opinion magazines, trade journals, think tanks, websites, broadcast news programs and other news outlets. Publisher Mark Ragan and Editor in Chief James Ylisela Jr. will lead NSD. · Amazon.com announced it has launched a new store, Magazine Subscriptions, where customers can subscribe to magazines. · Matt Hutchings, Executive Vice President of America One Television today that the America One Television Network has acquired the exclusive rights to broadcast Horse TV. Horse TV is a part of America One's Western Lifestyle Block. This block will also include Americana Music Television and America One's ``Western Theater'' hosted by TV, radio, and film star Red Steagall. Additional programming includes classic Western TV shows and will soon have an exclusive Southwest cooking show. Beginning on November 1, 2001, America One's Horse TV programming will be airing on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Eastern Time. The programming is categorized in the following segments: Wide World of Horses, Planet Horse, 'Round the Arena', In the Ring, Event Showcase and Out of the Past. · Drugs.com re-launches this week with a searchable database of over 24,000 prescription and OTC drug descriptions, powered by Micromedex, a member of the Thomson Healthcare Information publishing group; and Multum Information Services, Denver-based specialist in solutions for the growing problem of adverse drug events. The Drugs.com site targets both healthcare professionals and consumers. Features include a patient Care Guide (also provided by Micromedex) and a Drug Interactions search facility, supplied by Multum. · MedHunters magazine announced that it will begin the distribution of its premiere issue. MedHunters magazine is a human-interest quarterly that profiles extraordinary people in healthcare. The magazine sets itself apart from other industry magazines by portraying healthcare professionals as people who are actively engaged in varied activities at both the local and international level. Miscellaneous · Cahners Travel Group, formerly a division of Reed Elsevier's Cahners Business Information, has been renamed Northstar Travel Media LLC. Northstar Travel Media LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Boston Ventures Management, Inc. which completed the purchase of Cahners Travel Group on Sept. 28, 2001. Boston Ventures is a private equity firm focusing on the media, entertainment and communication industries. · Origin Systems, an Electronic Arts development studio, announced that it has signed an agreement with Grammy and Emmy-winning producer/director Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn, McFarlane Toys and Spawn.com, to create characters exclusively for Ultima Online: Lord Blackthorn's Revenge, the latest version in the Ultima Online (UO) series. The company is also partnering with McFarlane and McFarlane Toys to develop both a line of six action figures based on the new UO creatures and two comic books based on Ultima Online: Lord Blackthorn's Revenge.
