The appointment, made by Inquirer Publisher Bob Hall, was coupled with an announcement that Robert Rosenthal had resigned after four years as Inquirer editor. Lundy, a newspaper veteran of 35 years, has been editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press since 1990. · Peter Grant, an award-winning real-estate reporter for The Wall Street Journal has signed on to write ``Bricks & Mortar'', an exclusive column for RealEstateJournal.com, a website from The Wall Street Journal. Bricks & Mortar provides information and insight into major real-estate deals, trends and newsmakers of the day. · Guru, Inc., an online resource for professional talent, announced that Nikki Granner has joined the team as Vice President of Operations. Prior to joining Guru, Granner spent three years as General Manager at Aquent Partners, an international staffing business for creative and Internet professionals. · Tony Dellamaria, group publisher of Wood Digest and Laminating Design & Technology has added Solid Surface Magazine (SSM) to his portfolio. Joanna Duggan will remain as publisher. Tony Dellamaria takes the reigns from Group Publisher Eliot Sefrin, who oversees additional publications within the Cygnus Building & Home Products Market including Design/Build Business, Kitchen & Bath Design News and Qualified Remodeler. · Vanguarde Media, Inc. (VMI) announced that two fashion directors have joined its editorial team. Kevin Stewart has been appointed fashion director of Savoy magazine, and Michaela angela Davis, fashion director of Honey magazine. Prior to joining Savoy, Mr. Stewart was creative director at Guccione Media publication, Gear magazine, a men's lifestyle magazine. Ms. Davis's experience includes being the founding fashion editor of Vibe magazine. · Everton Publishers, Inc., a publisher of genealogical and family history materials, announced that it has named entrepreneur R. Craig Hansen as its new chairman of the board. Hansen recently invested an undisclosed amount in Everton Publishers, and he is the first person outside of the Everton family to invest in the company or to be named as its chairman. Everton Publishers was formed in 1947 by Walter Everton when it first began publishing Everton's Genealogical Helper magazine. · Casino Publishing Group announced several new additions to its editorial team. In the coming months, Casino Player readers will see new columns by gambling experts Mike Caro, Nolan Dalla, Lou Krieger and Arthur Reber. · Ziff Davis Media Inc. announced today the appointment of Bart W. Catalane to the position of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Catalane, who will report to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert F. Callahan, will be responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations and financial aspects for the company. Catalane starts November 26th. Most recently, Catalane was Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of TMP Worldwide Inc. Prior to that, Catalane was Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of ABC's Broadcasting Division, a unit of the Walt Disney Company, based in New York. · Mark S. Hansen, 47, chairman and CEO of Fleming Companies, Inc., a distributor and retailer in the food, drug and specialty store industry, was elected to the board of directors of Amazon.com. Hansen becomes the sixth, and fifth outside, director on the Amazon.com board. · Media General's Publishing Division is promoting Thomas A. Silvestri to president of its community newspapers, effective Jan. 1, 2002. He was previously senior vice president of the company's community newspapers, which are located in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, and Northern Florida. Silvestri also will continue to oversee Virginia Business, a statewide business magazine. · Meredith Corporation has named veteran television executive Kevin P. O'Brien President of the Meredith Broadcasting Group. In his new role, O'Brien will direct the operations of Meredith's 12 television stations. For the past 15 years, he has worked for Cox Broadcasting, serving as Executive Vice President of the Cox Television Independent Group. · Modern Healthcare announced the promotion of David Burda to editor. Burda, 41, has been Modern Healthcare's news editor since December 1996. Burda joined Modern Healthcare in 1987 as a reporter, covering legal affairs, labor and quality of care. Burda replaces long time editor, Clark Bell, who was recently named publisher of sister publication, Modern Physician. Reporter Barbara Kirchheimer, who covers investor-owned hospitals, has been named acting news editor. Morningstar, Inc. announced the appointment of Scott Cooley as editor of Morningstar Mutual Funds, a mutual fund reference for investment professionals, and Christine Benz as editor of Morningstar FundInvestor, a monthly mutual fund newsletter for individual investors. Digital Publishing · OverDrive, Inc. and HarperCollins Publishers announced the creation of HarperCollins Private Reserve, a digital warehouse for HarperCollins ebooks. Utilizing OverDrive servers and technology, HarperCollins Private Reserve allows the company's divisions in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand to directly manage and distribute ebook titles and marketing information. Content Deals · Cygnus Business Media, a business-to-business media company, announced it has acquired Professional Tool & Equipment Distributor (PTED), from Illinois-based Marketing Advertising Communication Services Inc. Published six times per year, the publication serves 10,000 tool distributors for the automotive industry. Cygnus already owns Professional Tool & Equipment News (PTEN), which reaches over 110,000 professionals in the automotive repair industry. · BusinessWeek Online and Newmediary, Inc. announced the launch of a new, interactive web directory and RFP-powered search tool for the business community. BusinessWeek Online, a resource for business professionals has integrated Newmediary's directory of service providers into its website. The Business Services Directory offers BusinessWeek Online users a resource for evaluating and selecting service providers. · Berkeley-based Peachpit Press, founding publisher of Macromedia Press, announced its collaboration with Indianapolis-based Que Publishing (both part of Pearson PTG, a division of Pearson Education) to expand its Macromedia Press list to include developer titles such as the bestselling ColdFusion Web Application Construction Kit by Ben Forta. Since 1996, Peachpit Press has published Macromedia Press in conjunction with Macromedia, Inc. Earlier this year, Macromedia, Inc. and Massachusetts-based Allaire Corporation merged. By adding Allaire server technology to the Macromedia product family, Macromedia now serves a broader community of users, not only designers and multimedia professionals but also high-end developers and programmers with products such as ColdFusion 5, UltraDev 4 Studio, and JRun Studio. To ensure that the newly formed company's expanded community is fully served by Macromedia Press, Peachpit will look to Que's books by Ben Forta and a new line of developer titles created specifically for Macromedia Press. · Mothers Against Drunk Driving, an organization and household name also known as MADD, has selected McMurry Publishing to provide custom publishing services for its national magazine Driven (circulation 1,000,000). Launched in 1997, Driven is a 28-page, biannual publication. Another custom publisher published it before MADD selected McMurry to breathe new life into the title. · CareerBuilder, Inc., announced that it completed the acquisition of HeadHunter.net, Inc. The CareerBuilder and Headhunter job websites will be merged in the months ahead. · Amazon.com Inc. has made an all-stock, non-cash investment in Altura International, a California-based company that operates the CatalogCity.com website. CatalogCity.com provides access to catalog products and merchants. As part of an accompanying commercial agreement, CatalogCity.com merchants will be featured at Amazon.com, and Amazon.com's selection of books, music, DVDs and videos will be featured at CatalogCity.com. Launches and Redesigns · This holiday season, Hallmark launches a new product that combines Hallmark's greeting card and creative expertise with consumers' digital photos into custom printed greeting cards. The Photo Cards by Hallmark Stories gives consumers the ability to put their digital photos and personal message onto Hallmark greeting cards. On the HallmarkStories.com site, prices range from $1.50 per card to $3.25, depending on the card design and quantity ordered. · NetWorld Alliance has launched PizzaMarketplace.com, an interactive news portal for the pizza industry. Steve Coomes, former editor-in-chief of Pizza Today magazine, is the site's editor. His experience includes 11 years in restaurant operations, plus 11 more as a journalist covering the foodservice industry. He will be based at NetWorld Alliance's Louisville headquarters. PizzaMarketplace.com will focus on news and information for the $26 billion pizza industry. · The California Film Commission (CFC) has unveiled its new website -- www.film.ca.gov -- offering filmmakers and the production community increased information and dynamic interactive services for filming in the state. · Integridad Network Inc., an organization reaching the Spanish-speaking community, has unveiled its community site, Integridad.com. The site targets users who have specific interests in accessing values and faith-based content, tools, and resources in Spanish. · Terra Lycos announced the launch of its new network, featuring a simpler navigation with less clutter. The goal of the new unified look and feel is to transform Terra Lycos sites in the U.S. from an ``index'' or ``table of contents'' format to a more media-centric magazine cover format. · PennWell Corp., a business-to-business information company headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, announced the launch of Lightwave Europe, a monthly technology magazine for the European fibre optics industry. The first issue of the pan-European monthly magazine will appear in March 2002. Lightwave Europe will have a controlled circulation of 15,050 across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. · Lebhar-Friedman, Inc. announced the launch of a redesigned website for Drug Store News, its bi-weekly publication serving the chain drug store industry. The new site boasts enhanced content and clean, contemporary graphics. Miscellaneous · Catch 23 Entertainment has acquired the worldwide film rights to Just a Pilgrim, the comic book created by Garth Ennis (creator of Preacher and writer of Punisher) and published by Black Bull Entertainment, a sister company of Wizard Entertainment Group, it was announced by Jeremy W. Barber, President of Catch 23 Entertainment. Marc Danon, vice president of production and acquisitions, who previously oversaw the development of the Marvel comic book franchise at Artisan Entertainment, brought Just a Pilgrim to Catch 23. Danon will oversee the project for Catch 23 with the help of David Keith, who has recently been promoted to the position of development assistant and junior story editor. Catch 23 will immediately begin to package and develop the property.
