Sandhills, the Lincoln, Neb.-based publisher of the Smart Computing family of computing publications, is launching a new monthly title designed for technical experts. Computer Power User, which plays off its initials CPU for its cover logo, blends examinations of new technologies, hardware and software reviews, and advanced tips with outspoken opinion pieces from well-known computing experts. The premiere issue of CPU is now on sale at newsstands for $5.95.

The columnists contributing opinions to CPU include figures such as Alex St. John, founder of Wild Tangent and co-creator of DirectX; Anand Shimpi, hardware guru and founder of the hardware news site AnandTech.com; Alex ``Sharky'' Ross, computer pundit and founder of the computing enthusiast site SharkyExtreme.com; Chris Pirillo, TechTV host and founder of Windows' tip site LockerGnome; Joan Wood, founder of Xatrix Entertainment and president of game developer MangoGrits; Pete Loshin, open source proponent and former technology reviews editor for BYTE magazine; Lisa Lopuck, leading Web designer, book author, and founder of eHandson.com; Kyle Bennett, hardware wizard and founder of overclocking site HardOCP.com; Rob ``CmdrTaco'' Malda, Linux proponent and founder of ``news for nerds'' site Slashdot.org; and others.

Editor Samit Choudhuri heads up the editorial team working on CPU. Choudhuri says that along with opinion columns and product reviews, every issue of CPU will have articles especially designed ``for people who like to get their hands dirty working on their computer systems.''
