Palm Signs Agreement With HarperCollins to Distribute PerfectBound Ebooks

Palm, Inc. has announced an agreement to distribute the HarperCollins PerfectBound line of ebooks through Palm Digital Media, a publisher and distributor of ebooks for handheld computers. PerfectBound, the ebook imprint of HarperCollins, publishes a list of titles by some of its bestselling authors. Among the PerfectBound offerings now available from Palm Digital Media are ebooks by Geoffrey A. Moore, Lawrence Block, Gao Xingjian, Clive Barker, Lisa Scottoline and Neil Gaiman. Palm Digital Media also has distribution agreements with other publishers including Random House, Simon & Schuster, St. Martin's Press and Time Warner Trade Books.

``By adding the PerfectBound line of eBooks to our growing list of more than 3,000 titles, we are greatly expanding the range available to our customers,'' said Jeff Stroebel, director of Palm Digital Media. ``This agreement gives us access to the tremendous range of high-quality books published by HarperCollins as they become part of the PerfectBound line.''

Palm Reader, an ebook reader application, runs on Palm Powered handhelds using Palm OS 3.0 and higher, as well as on Pocket PC handhelds. Palm Reader eBooks can be purchased and downloaded from www.palm.com/ebooks.

``Through this relationship with Palm, PerfectBound eBooks are now available to the millions of Palm and Pocket PC users in a high-quality, user-friendly format,'' said David Steinberger, president, Corporate Strategy and International, for HarperCollins. ``The Palm Reader technology lets us offer readers the editorial and technological special features that are exclusive to PerfectBound eBook editions, while also protecting our authors' copyrights.''
