Maurice Sendak Creates New 'Little Bear' Story

Acclaimed children's author and illustrator Maurice Sendak (Where the Wild Things Are) and Else Holmelund Minarik (The Adventures of Little Bear) have teamed up to create Little Bear's New Friend, the first new addition to the Little Bear children's book series in over 30 years appearing exclusively in Nick Jr. Magazine's December/January issue. The new story and illustrations based on the popular children's Little Bear book series. In this new fable, Little Bears' New Friend, the cub learns the importance of being happy just with himself and being his own best friend.

``At a time when we all need reassurance, simple pleasures like holiday rituals and nurturing activities like reading that engage both children and their parents are especially welcome. Story telling is one of those special activities that connect us to our children and we're thrilled that Else Holmelund Minarik and Maurice Sendak have created another magical Little Bear story for our readers to share and enjoy,'' said Freddi Greenberg, Editor in Chief, Nick Jr. Magazine.

Maurice Sendak has produced over a dozen books of his own as well as illustrating more than seventy stories by other authors. He is best known for his two most famous works, Where the Wild Things are and In the Night Kitchen. Else Holmelund Minarik is the author of the well-known series of five titles about the bear cub character named Little Bear. In addition to the Little Bear series, Minarik wrote What If? in 1987, the story of two young children who let their imaginations runs wild.
