· Phyllis Gurgevich, General Manager of Recharger Magazine, has been promoted to Publisher of the monthly publication serving the office recycling industry. Recharger is a publication of 101communications, aed business-to-business media company. Gurgevich joined Recharger in 1995 managing both advertising sales and production and quickly assumed more responsibilities.

· Acclaim Entertainment, Inc., a video entertainment software developer and publisher, announced that it has appointed Edmond Sanctis to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer. Reporting directly to both company Co-Chairmen, Gregory Fischbach and James Scoroposki, Sanctis will be responsible for overseeing the performance and strategic growth of the company's North American operations, including product development, marketing, sales and manufacturing.

· Post Newsweek Tech Media, a division of The Washington Post Company, announced four major promotions in its senior management ranks. As of January 1, 2002, Chuck Lyons will become CEO of Post Newsweek Tech Media, replacing Beverly Keil, who retired this year from The Washington Post Company (TWPC). Lyons is an eight-year veteran with TWPC and has served as the president of Post Newsweek Tech Media since 1999. In conjunction with Lyons' move, the company is also promoting three other managers. David Greene, the company's chief operating officer, will assume the title of president as of January 1st. Maxine Minar will become the company's senior vice president of operations, and Tom Trezza fills the newly created position of associate publisher of the company's Government Computer News and Washington Technology magazines.

· Maintenance Supplies magazine, a publication serving the janitorial supply industry, announced the promotion of Tracy Aston to publisher. She was most recently associate publisher for the publication. In her new position, she will be responsible for overall strategic direction including marketing, sales and editorial.

· Journal Register Company Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Robert M. Jelenic announced the promotion of Kevin F. Walsh to publisher of the New Haven Register effective January 1, 2002. Walsh replaces Thomas E. Rice, who in addition to his duties as senior vice president, operations of Journal Register Company, has been publisher of the New Haven Register since March of 2001. Rice will continue in his role as senior vice president, operations.

· Cygnus Business Media announced the appointment of Katie Brennan as Group Vice President, Cygnus Publishing Division. Ms. Brennan will be based out of the company's Melville, New York offices and oversee several of the company's publications. Prior to joining Cygnus, Ms. Brennan was Vice President of Business Development for WatchIT.com, an elearning company for IT and Business professionals.

· ExploreLearning, a provider of online learning solutions for middle school, high school, and introductory college-level courses, announced the appointment of Theodore (``Ted'') Buchholz to the role of President & Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Buchholz succeeds Carl Frischkorn, the company's founding investor who has served as interim CEO since July and will continue, as Chairman of the Board. Prior to joining ExploreLearning, Mr. Buchholz was President and Chief Executive Officer of Harcourt College Publishers, an US educational publisher.

· TheStreet.com, Inc., a provider of financial commentary, analysis and news, announced that Mike Anderson has joined the Company as co-executive editor. Most recently, Anderson served as money and investing editor at The Wall Street Journal Online. Joining Anderson as co-executive editor is Tim Johnson, who has been with TheStreet.com for more than two years, most recently as managing editor.

Digital Publishing

· Agfa Monotype Corporation, a provider of fonts and font technologies, announced the availability of the Agfa Monotype eBook Font Pack for the Palm Reader, Palm, Inc.'s ebook reader. The pack contains fonts that help optimize legibility when reading ebooks with the new Palm Reader Pro software. Three font styles are included -- serif, sans serif and condensed -- for both the Palm OS and Pocket PC versions of the Palm Reader software.

Content Deals

· Ladies' Home Journal and Court TV have joined forces with ABC News to create and produce original content and programming for the upcoming Court TV/Ladies' Home Journal Safety Challenge 2002. The Court TV/Ladies' Home Journal Safety Challenge 2002 is a two-part series (Spring and Fall) of special magazine reports and television events that will focus on some of the personal and family safety issues that many Americans have been talking about in the aftermath of September 11th.

· The Thomson Corporation announced it has acquired Gardiner-Caldwell Communications Ltd., an independent medical education and communications companies. Gardiner-Caldwell will enhance the medical education franchise within Thomson by enabling the corporation to provide educational programs for companies. The acquisition also strengthens the U.S. market presence established by Thomson through Physicians World. Gardiner-Caldwell will become a part of the Scientific & Healthcare operating group within Thomson, and will continue to be run by its current business management group, headed by managing director, Steve Angrave.

· Media General and The New York Times Company announced the partnership of converged news organizations in the Tampa Bay area. WFLA-TV News Channel 8, TBO.com, The Tampa Tribune, Hernando Today, Highlands Today, Sunbelt Newspapers and the Suncoast News, all owned by Media General, will partner with the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, SNN-Channel 6 and heraldtribune.com, which are owned by The New York Times Company. The properties will collaborate in the areas of content sharing, cross promotion and co-sponsored events.

Launches and Redesigns

· The New York Times announced that beginning January 3 it will incorporate its print and online recruitment services into an integrated offering called The New York Times Job Market. The new offering will streamline services and provide new benefits for advertisers and job seekers. It will be supported by an expanded sales force and new ad campaign. The New York Times Job Market will be directed by Alexis Buryk, group vice president of advertising, The New York Times.

Miscellaneous

· Creo Products Inc. has invested US$23.6 million in printCafe, Inc. printCafe is a provider of print management software for both printers and buyers in the printing and publishing industry. Other investors in this financing include Mellon Ventures, Inc.; HarbourVest Partners, LLC of Boston, MA; J & W Seligman; and Weiss, Peck & Greer, LLC.

· Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc., announced that it has been awarded an exclusive multi-year worldwide license for trading card games (TCG) based on the entire Star Wars saga. This deal represents a long-term partnership between Lucasfilm and Wizards of the Coast. Game designer Richard Garfield, who originated the trading card game concept when he developed Magic: The Gathering in 1993, has created the Star Wars TCG.

· eUniverse, Inc., an interactive entertainment network, and L90, Inc., an online media and direct marketing company, announced that they have entered into an Agreement and Plan of Merger pursuant to which L90, Inc. will be acquired by eUniverse through a wholly owned subsidiary of eUniverse in a cash merger.
