Greenwood Launches Online Edition of The Horn Book

Posted on February 1, 2002

Greenwood Electronic Media has announced the launch of a subscription online version of The Horn Book Guide. The Horn Book Guide reviews nearly 4,000 children's and young adult titles each year. The online version offers more than 35,000 reviews of books published between 1989 and 2001. A 30-day free trial is currently available. Regular subscription price will be $37.50 per year for individual subscribers and $75 per year for Institutional subscribers. The Horn Book Magazine and The Horn Book Guide are published by The Horn Book, Inc.

"Thousands of new children's books are published each year. Many are terrific, some are dreadful, more are mediocre," said Anne Quirk, associate publisher, The Horn Book. "Now with The Horn Book Guide Online, parents, teachers and librarians can tell the difference quickly, confidently and affordably."

Each book reviewed receives a rating, from one (outstanding) to six (unacceptable). Books with outstanding or superior ratings are highlighted with a special symbol. A brief paragraph summarizes the plot and critically reviews each book.

"The advantage The Horn Book Guide Online brings is the ability to easily search for books by subject, title, author/illustrator, rating, keywords and grade level," said Beth Dufford, director, Greenwood Electronic Media. "The extensive subject index will be a valued reference tool for librarians and teachers."

Greenwood Electronic Media (GEM) was founded in 1998 by the Greenwood Publishing Group to deliver online products to school, public and college libraries. The Greenwood Publishing Group (GPG) is a publisher of academic monographs, reference titles (for university, public, and school libraries), college texts, journals, professional books, and electronic resources. With over 18,000 titles in print, GPG publishes some 800 titles each year. The Greenwood Publishing Group is a member of the Reed Elsevier plc group, a global publisher and information provider.
