Wolters Kluwer Acquires Casenotes Publishing Company

Wolters Kluwer North America has acquired Casenotes Publishing Company, Inc., Santa Monica, Calif., a publisher of study aids for U.S. law students. Casenotes will become part of Aspen Publishers , New York, NY, a provider of legal, business and healthcare information, and a Wolters Kluwer North America company.

Casenotes had 2001 fiscal year revenues of approximately $1.2 million. Casenotes was founded in the early 1970's and was a privately held company. Casenotes offers multiple product lines targeted to law students, but is best known for its Legal Briefs product line, which provides summaries of the cases used in law school casebooks. The Legal Briefs series includes 150 titles covering all major casebooks used in U.S. law schools.

Casenotes will become part of Aspen Publishers, strengthening Aspen's legal education product line. Aspen offers a line of casebooks used by law schools and law students. In addition, the company produces a series of supportive legal study aids and a legal citation manual, all of which will be complemented by the Casenotes product line.

Wolters Kluwer North America, headquartered in Chicago, is a unit of Wolters Kluwer nv, Amsterdam. It is comprised of a number of legal, tax and business information, software and service companies, including Aspen Publishing, Inc., New York City/Gaithersburg, Md.; CCH Canadian, Toronto; CCH IInc., Riverwoods, Ill.; CCH Legal Information Services, New York City; and CCH Tax Compliance, Torrance, Calif.
